I recently googled “royal all metal upright” only to find out that it appeared to be that nobody carries those machines anymore. I went to royal’s website (assuming it was royalvacuums.com or something like that), and found out that it was taken down. Dirt devil is still around, but does anybody know what happened to royal? Might Kirby now be the only manufacturer of vacuums with the fan facing forward (a la 1920s)?

You should search vacuum land a little bit more.

The Royal name really didn't resonate with anybody after about 1995.
So as sales decline the next 20 years TTI finally decided to kill the brand off.
I believe this went down late 2016 early 2017 from my memory.
They're definitely worth collecting.

TTi should get rid of dirt devil too tbh. Dirt devil is just getting worst and worst by each year passing since the mid 90s. As much i like royal as a brand they really have struggled with quality control and cutting cost with many of their machines including the all metal uprights. Plus they're more focused on hoover and oreck now and neglecting royal so I can see why royal isn't gonna be around for much longer.

Mostly wrong...

Royal is still around. They have an old Oreck upright rebadged as a Royal lightweight. Still trying to figure out what the next step is for Royal. We actually still have an Everlast upright left in one of our stores (we don’t even demo it as it’s just there for someone who has to have a Royal). The lightweight model sells well, we add an Oreck bag dock to the machine and sell it with a pack of hepa cloth bags to get the price around $250 and sell a good many of them.

As stated here recently The Kirby/Metal Royal upright is an out of date platform that has gone by the way of the dinosaur.

R.I.P.

We deal in TTI warranty, but don’t really sell their latest stuff. Definitely will keep carrying that one lightweight Royal in our stores until they run out. We discontinued the Royal Shampooer and everlast long before they stopped making them, so I was mistaken that they were liquidating the lightweight piece. Our focus is mainly Sebo, Riccar, a few Simplicity pieces and Cyclovac at my stores.

I like the Royal Dirt Devil a nice hand vacuum for surface cleaning. I still have had the same one I bought in the early 1980's

I also used the Pony cylinder vacuum with the power head. I liked that one as well. I do however have a preference for an upright.
