Looking Back, And Forward
This past year has been a good one for my collection. I thinned the herd a little by passing 4 machines (Royal 801 and 1028, Electro-Hygiene 903, and Frankenkirby) on to other collectors, but also added 3, and 2 of those were on my wish list--a Custom King (Silver King) and a model 210-A Electro-Hygiene tank, and the third one being a 2-230 Electro-Hygiene upright that I wanted for the attachments to complete one I already had but ended up with the vacuum too! I also found an attach-a-caddy and sprayer to make my Air-Way 66 more complete, sprayer, sudser, and demother for my Revelation, but then after getting a demother and sudser for my Custom King, I hit the jackpot on Silver King accessories! I found a set on ebay that had the King Polisher (which I didn't even know was available), squeegee, sprayer, instruction books for the Silver King and the polisher, sudser, demother, filters, rug nozzle and floor brush. If I had known this was going to turn up, I wouldn't have bought the other sudser and demother, and now I have an extra rug nozzle and floor brush too!
I also found instruction books for my 512 Kirby and 55A Air-Way, so I now have books for all my Kirbys and Air-Ways. And I learned something from the Air-Way book--at some time during the production of the 55A, they apparently changed some of the attachments. Mine has a different upholstery nozzle with a slider for the floor brush, and the book shows the style of floor brush and upholstery nozzle that were used with the 66. A purchase date in 1948 was written on the back of the book, so I'm assuming that means mine was built before 1948.
So what will 2025 bring? Hopefully I'll find time to get some restoration and polishing done and do some further testing on the 2-230 EH to see if it runs or not. Probably round up a few more machines to pass on to other collectors, and just maybe I'll find another one too knock off my wish list!
