What Can You Tell Me About This Simplicity?

As a collector of vintage vacuum cleaners, this is a rare sight. I have a more modern cleaner in my collection. I bought this for next to nothing at my local Goodwill store a year or two ago and have never touched it since I brought it home. But for the cheap price, I couldn't leave it behind. I know nothing about this vacuum, or even this brand for that matter. It does run and sound very well. Is it any good?

I've run into more than a couple of Simplicitys or Riccars in thrift stores. I don't know why other than maybe the owner's wanted to go bagless, or maybe something more lightweight? If they're not in too bad shape, I clean them up and flip them to a new owner.

Your machine is very much like the Simplicity Symmetry models. I can help you obtain the extension wand, crevice tool, and dusting tool which are missing from the back of your cleaner. I can also help you with new Hepa Bags, filters, belts, and brush strips for the metal brush bar. It's really a very good vacuum, with spring loaded wheels, for automatic height adjustment. Congrats on a great, well built vacuum.

I found that exact model at the Goodwill a few months ago. It's a member of the Simplicity "6" series, which as the name implies is just a step below the TOL "7" series. I really like how quiet these machines are. The metal brushroll and fantastic airflow give it exceptional carpeting cleaning performance. The issue that seems to reappear frequently on these models is with the bag door latch and the handle loop right above it. The plastic there is a little cheap and I've seen quite a few snapped or cracked. I can't imagine how much force it would take to actually break it, but I would still be careful.  Check for clogs in the air channel between the hose and brush roll as well. It's unlikely, but I've seen it before. With a new belt and bag, this is on the best new vacuums on the market!

The design reminds me of a Panasonic vacuum.
