What are your thoughts on Aerus?

I'm not a huge fan of canister type vacuums. I like the unit in front of me. However I would think that the "retro" style canister would do a very good job.

I do not own and have never used an Aerus branded vacuum cleaner; however, I have several late 1960s-1990s vintage Electrolux machines and I love them. They're powerful, quiet, durable and well designed. If Aerus has managed to maintain the quality of their present lineup, then that's great.

If your question was referring to Aerus as a company, I don't really have an opinion since I've only had dealings with one dealer to get the handle/switch/cord assembly replaced under a years-old safety recall on my Genesis LXe upright. The guy was pretty nice about it, although I would have been happier if Aerus had just sent me the replacement handle. Also, the rocker switch on the new handle isn't right. It won't turn on in the 'I' (straight suction) mode unless I turn it all the way to the 'II' (carpet) mode first and then back to 'I'. I prefer the old Discovery II style slider switch, which is what the Genesis originally had.
 
Aerus is still going strong with innovative ideas

Aerus is going strong. Their vacuums and the service after the sale are bar none. They are easily repaired and parts are readily available. They have ventured out years ago into the air purification industry and make the best system you can buy. The company isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. As a The platinum is a beast of a unit and the classic is a great all around canister vacuum. It’s lightweight powerful and user friendly. It really picks up the dirt and pet hair and grooms the carpet nicely.

Glad to hear there are still demands for quality products no mater what platform they use.

The problems you describe would set me off as well. I want it to work as close to new after a repair as it did before the part(s) failed.
 
Yeah, the really irritating part was the slider switch on the original handle worked perfectly. The machine was recalled because cord design was unsafe. It came out of the end of the handle grip and posed a shock hazard if it got damaged. Mine was perfectly okay and I sort of wish I'd left things well enough alone but what's done is done. I talked to the guy on the phone after I got it home and he offered to swap another handle onto it but I didn't want to make yet another 80-mile round trip to get it done. That's why I wish Aerus would have just mailed me the replacement handle. One screw holds the thing in place and no great technical skill is required to swap it. I'm just glad the repair was free.
 
The unsafe cord design makes sense to change that for all users.

Years ago we had an account that OSHA visited often. We would get a call from the customer if the grounding prong was broken off the end of the cord. OSHA would write the customer up for it. OSHA was ok with a proper repair with a new plug end or cord. Just so long as the machine had a grounding plug.
