Well, this week has been productive!

This last week, (mainly last Saturday) has seen quite a few additions to my collection.


From left to right


A Hoover spirit with pn, bag indicator, and no cord winder. Have not had the opportunity to try it yet however it is fairly clean on the inside and the hose, pn, and brushbar are all in very good condition. I also got the small tools and some bags with it. I paid 15 for it.


 


Next are the two lovely Electrolux model 30's. They were both together (marked as hoovers I might add) One has the original cord, hose (which is still airtight!) the basic tools, and an original replacement filter! The other has a replacement hose, cord, is not as nice structurally, and only had the rug tool. I still haven't had the chance to run them or inspect them very well yet (it's been a busy week). For five bucks each, I could not leave them!


 


Then the Electrolux 1205, The gentleman I bought it from said it had been his mothers and that it worked. It has all the tools, the hose is completely dead, the pn and machine both seem to be in good shape (yes, I know I need to test them!). Knowing Electrolux, I'm sure I can get it to a nice condition. Funny thing is, the man said the hose had been replaced about five years ago. When he said this of course I just nodded, not to be rude. But that hose is most certainly not five years old! I paid him 15 for it.


 


Next we come to the blue beast, a very basic Simplicity 7000 series upright. Not much to say except that it is in very good condition, in fact the bag chamber is literally spotless. It runs fine, just needs new post filters and a belt. I figured "why not" for 20 bucks.



Finally a gift someone dropped off at the vacuum store for me, a straight suction Royal tank. Once again, I haven't tested it yet however it has all the tools, a little of the usual wear, and a replacement plug. I really like these machines, shame it doesn't have a power head though.


 


All machines but the royal were found at the annual Sun City community garage sale. Sun City (which is a retirement community) is not even five minutes from my house.This is the first year I have been able to go, and now I know what I've been missing!

WOW! Wish I had finds like that here! I haven't been to a community garage sale in years, I need to find some to go to if they bring in stuff like that!

That Royal is an awesome find. My guess is it will have the highest airflow of any of the machines you found this week.

The Simplicity upright looks like a nice machine as well. Never used one but looks similar to the Panasonics. Doest it have a metal sole plate and brush roll.

Great vacs!

All nice but the straight suction Royal may be more rare than with power head.I have seen very few with power head,none without.Would be perfect with a Royal upright.Sort of like a grown up Oreck combo idea.

Rare Royal....

Scott, if my memory serves me correctly, that gray Royal is the last of the metal tanks. I remember seeing one in a vacuum shop maybe back in '05ish. I remember asking the shop owner why it didn't come with a power nozzle, and was told it was going to be the last of the metal tanks. That's a keeper, unless of course, you'd like to talk a trade? I wish I could remember the price for sure, I'm wanting to say $299.99 or so. I believe the rug nozzle is an age old design of a Douglas tool.

Hans, you got that right about the Royal "combo"! What a dynamic duo!

I like the Hoover sulking over at the end of the photo. It's a nice color. One of those is on my someday list of Hoover canisters I want to add to my collection. What condition is it in?

Thanks everyone, indeed I am more inclined I think to end up using the royal around the house. They are extremely powerful machines, and I will be hanging on to it.


The simplicity is also a very powerful, well made machine which will certainly get some use. 


The hoover canister main unit has a few issues, the exhaust foam is gone, there are scratches on the top of the machine, and the motor cover itself seems to be loose. Like I said, the power head and hose are in very good condition.

Does the Grey Royal canister have a 3 pin cord and plug?If so this was commercial version of that type machine.Used to have one breifly.

Nice finds Scott! And I agree with Morgan, the Royal tank will probably have the best airflow of all of them! It will do a great job, even without a power nozzle! And yes, it's probably a rare one too! Most of them I've seen are blue and they did make it in burgandy for a while, but I think this is the first time I've seen this one in gray.

Sounds like the Hoover has nothing really bad going on. Filters get replaced while the vacuum is apart for sanitizing anyway. If you can't find the original make one out of bulk filter material. Hoover plastics back then were really good and scratches can be polished out with any ultra fine automotive swirl and scratch remover. If a threaded boss is stripped it can be filled and re-drilled. The screws are usually self tapping so all they need is a small pilot hole. A project but it looks like the basics are solid. I'd rather repair a stripped hole than chase around looking for a hard to find hose any day of the week.

Very nice vacuums you got there!!! The best luck I've had as of lately are 2 different friends of my husband's gave me an earlier version Electrolux 1205 and the other gave me an Electrolux tan model G. Good luck with your new vacuum babies! -Michelle

a HOOVER should never 'sulk'. it should be out there in the open for everyone to see. Speaking of the 'blue beast', I have TWO for sale. Eletist that I am.

Thanks again all. The royal does have a three prong plug, but it is a replacement and the machine does not make any reference to being a commercial model.


John, i'm surprised you missed that part about how the two lux model 30's were labeled as Hoovers! Don't worry, the hoover wasn't sulking, just a little scared of the royal and the 1205!

Since it does have a 3 pin plug-and if the ground pin is connected to the metal body-it would be legal under OSHA rules to use the machine commercially.The one I used to have said Royal "Commerical" on it.Since I have lots of other Royal tanks-don't really miss the machine.The grey one I had didn't come with a powernozzle or powernozzle compatable hose.It was a suction only vacuum.

The straight suction Royal tank is a good find. It came new with a matching color 3 prong cord, and was indeed intended for commercial use, I have the manual for mine and it does call it a commercial machine if my memory is correct. It was the very last model of the tank made, and is a very powerful machine. I actually enjoy using it on carpet, which is a very rare thing for me to say about a suction only machine. I don't know how rare they are, but have always been told that not many were made or sold compared to the other models with the PN. I've heard it called rare enough that I tend to believe it, so I call it a good find.

On a closer look at the pic, I believe thats the original cord, at least in the pic it looks the same color as the machine. A matching color 3 prong cord is correct for it.
