I am surprized the friction type vacuum hasn't made a comeback-they would filter the fine dust better than sweepers and can be used in places such as restuarants and movie theaters without disturbing patrons.The machines could combine the advantages of sweepers and vacuums.And of course--no shock hazard or power cords.also maybe good for office cleanup under cable laden desks.No powered roller brush to foul the computer,phone and power cords lurking around and under office desks and tables.

I think the reason they don't is because they could never generate the same suction power as their electric cousins. I have a Kwik-Kleen similar to the one in the auction, only mine has the bag exhaust on the back of the machine. Wish I had the bag for it....

Well, Scott & Fetzer is located in Cleveland, so it's likely that the "Standard Vacuum Cleaner MFG Co" also of Cleveland was just a paper-only name for the machines that S&F made for private labels. That procedure is not at all uncommon.

Good answer. If I had seen an Improved Vacuette before I would have been far less skeptical about what it really is.

I think I read somewhere that Scott & Fetzer also made stuff for Health Mor.
