Welcome to the new Vacuumland everyone! There has been a lot of new changes that just went in and there are most definitely going to be some bugs, so if you notice anything acting strange, please either post it here or email me.

Anyone who has logged in within the past month has been given a free upgrade for 45. While I upgraded everyone, whether they are 18 years old+ or not, after the 45 day introduction period the upgrade area will be open to 18 year old members and older only.

Some new things, if you post a youtube video URL directly into your post, under most circumstances it will convert itself automatically into a player. Don't use the embed code from youtube, just post the actual url web address of the video, just like you do in Facebook. Also links will convert themselves to clickable links under most circumstances as well.

Also there are five new animations on our home page, each one has five different vacuums. If you refresh the home page you will see them change. The five are chosen on a random basis.

Enjoy the new site everyone, please let me know if (more likely when) you find bugs.[this post was last edited: 4/3/2013-09:20]

New Site...

Robert,

It looks GREAT! I think this is a great step toward breathng new life into this website and hopefully it will attract more folks! Thank you for all of your hard work on this as I know it's not easy. I used to try my hand at programming websites in college and quite frankly, I stunk at it, but I certainly have a grand respect for anyone who can! I will try to go through it during my breaks today and see how things look/work and will let you know if I run across any "bugs!"

Fantastic! Robert, you couldn't have done a better job! You work yourself too much! But we all love what you do and can't thank you enough!

New and Improved Vacuumland

Robert

Well so far I am loving it :)

The site has a whole new freshness about it due to the work you have done and I think, in general, the principles you have stated are pretty fair and reasonable.

Without wishing to offend people I doubt that the old members only forum will be much missed. I chose not to renew my VCCC membership recently, but I think I will be very pleased to renew when my 45 days runs out.

A very small nit-pic - on the home page where you have "Discuss-o-vac" Forums" (I love the cute Connie) it might be clearer if you described this as Discuss-o-vac Guidelines as of course all the forums are at the top of the page.

I feel very confident that Vacuumland will continue with greater success than before.

Very well done and thank you for all the hard work and thought that must have gone into this

Al

Hi Robert, and thank you.

I haven't had a chance to look everything over yet, is there a history section? I ask because I'm getting tired of posting to new members how John Lucia and I went to Hoover together and formed the club. Also, I'm sure the old timers are getting tired of reading it for the 100th time. If that and all history was in a section of it's own, the newcomers could access it.

How about a section for our archives? things like newsletters. Again, I have a lot of stuff in storage, that's coming home in three weeks. History of a number of companies not just Electrolux and Kirby, but Air-Way, Filter Queen, Hoover, and so on.

So far, I'm very pleased with the site, and I just logged on. My hat's off to both you and little Fred. After running the whole kit and kaboodle for the first 12 years, I know the work involved. Back then we had no more than 20 members, I can't imagine running a club this size.

Let me know how I can contribute stories on the history of the vacuum cleaner, and so on into a site for all to read. I've sent these to various people via email, I want them out there for everybody.

With deep appreciation,
Robert Alexander Taber.

Hi Robert, I'm not sure you understand the idea of the new Vacuumland. Vacuumland and the VCCC are no longer connected. Vacuumland is a privately run website now by me and Fred. If at some point the VCCC decides to do so I can certainly help them set up a static non-forum based website with the history and club information. Then under the new "Vacuum Clubs" page accessible from the home page of Vacuumland we can add a link to the new site if the board wishes to do so.

In my opinion, having a website without a forum would be good for the VCCC, as it will show off the club without having to monitor it and no controversy what so ever.

Hi Robert re. the V.C. C.C.

As the man who founded the Vacuum Cleaner Collector's Club, I'd like to get involved with the history acpect of this. Let me know what you want from me. Let me stress that I don't want to run the club, we have a board for that, just be part of the history and archives that John Lucia and I started back in 1983.

I'm still feeling my way around, so help me do whats best for all concerned. I want to see the history section of the V.C.C.C. active, and am willing to share in the work. thanks again.

By the way, how do I get on the mailing list, I've been trying to do that for two months.

Robert Alexander (Alex) Taber.

W O W

This is simply amazing!! So proud to be blessed with an organization like this that appreciates the by-gone-era that keeps it going! Thank you Robert!!! Mark

Well done. One question...how come for some profiles I cannot click on them to see their information? I thought that anyone who posts has to create a profile?

Sounds like one of those bugs I was talking about Gary. Thank you for letting me know, I will research and fix that.

OK I figured out what you mean now Gary. If a post is not clickable it means the post is really old and the member name has been removed. You probably saw that in an old thread.

It looks like we've had the first thread reactivated in the vintage forum! Thread #215. It was reported to me that the reactivated thread wasn't sorted properly but I fixed that bug so it should be fine now.
