Hi all,

I am a new member to this form, and I am looking for a model U4017 Hoover Convertible.

My mother owned the exact same model and it was the first vacuum that I ever used. I have so many fond memories of using this vacuum and fortunately my parents took a photo of me (at 4 years old) using it. Sadly the motor on the one my parents owned burned up and they threw it away.

I have been looking for this exact model for years and have never found one. If anyone knows of one for sale or has one in their collection that they are willing to sell, let me know.

Thanks,

Rick

Hi, Rick!
What a great picture! I wish my parents had gotten some pictures of me as a child, using one of our vacuums. But, they weren't really big "picture people".
I so hope you're able to find a nice example of that Convertible.
What color is it? I don't think I've ever seen a Convertible in a color like that. Unless it's just my crummy old phone. It looks like sort of a dark olive green on my screen.
Again, best of luck in your quest!

Barry

Barry, to answer your question, the color of the hood and handle was more like a taupe gray. I found a post on this site from a while back that leads me to believe it is a U4017. The 4017 is the same color scheme with the same bag. It seems to be a pretty rare Convertible for some reason.

Tim H, I appreciate the advice. I will start searching FB marketplace using an expanded search area. Hopefully I will find one eventually.

Thank you both for your responses!

Great picture, I wish my family took pictures like that but being the youngest of 3, the thrill of pictures wore out for my time.

I'm in NC too, Raleigh area, so I'll keep my eye out; especially in thrift/re-stores. I've never seen that model/color scheme before, very interesting. My grandma had the U4047 in the lighter orange, I played with that all the time.

Happy Hunting.

A little history on this model…

The model U4017 was a bottom of the line promotional model for Ace Hardware stores. It had a very similar model, the U4065 that was also a bottom of the line promotional model. These models were an interesting homologation of a couple different machines including a similar bag and handle grip to the model 1076. I have one in my collection that I restored, but I’m not parting with it at this time, but I wanted to share some ads and spec sheets of this model and included some pics of mine at the end.

Thanks, Brian. I appreciate you keeping an eye out for this particular model. I am in Gibsonville, which is about an hour away from Raleigh, so not too far from you.

Karl, I am so impressed that you were able to find the vintage advertisements for this model. Wow! Also, thanks for the great info and for sharing the photos of your beautiful 4017.

Mercari

Rick,

I found a interesting convertible for sale on mercari last night. Was over priced and not the exact model you were looking for but it was there (guess you never know where they might pop up) was a model 1076

The ads Karl put up were pretty cool. Wish they still advertised like that. That is the first ad i have ever seen that had the regina duo vac in it, pic 2

Just wanted to let you all know that the seller supposedly delivered the vacuum to USPS and they lost it. Not sure how USPS could lose a vacuum, but they did. Thankfully, the seller gave me a full refund. So now it is back to looking for a U4017 again. If anyone finds one for sale, please let me know.

Really!

That must have been very frustrating! How do they lose a package that big! If I find another, I’ll be sure to let you know.

"How do they lose a package--"

USPS lost one of mine with rare Kirby parts between here and the northeast.I recently saw a news story of a USPS truck with unsecured rear doors that opened leaving 1000s of pieces of mail across an interstate.
I have many Convertibles but not sure if the above is among them. When I have time I will climb the ladder and search among dozens of them.

Yeah

I've had terrible luck with USPS as well. I was so worried they would lose my Electrolux xxx I got off eBay. Thsnkfully they didn't.
