WalMartized el cheapo Roomba's

Popped into WalMart this morning to print some wedding photos and while I was waiting I just happened by the vacuum aisle of all things. Anyways I noticed they had a Roomba, red one, for only $128, cheapest I've seen. On the back of the carton in small print with the Roomba Co. name etc it also had the WalMart name, so I'm figuring they must have made up a batch for sale cheap just for WalMart. Didn't come with any virtual walls though.

I saw a Roomba in our Wal-Mart, and it didn't register to me at the time. I keep seeing them in B.J.s warehouse club.

I saw these at the Woodstock Walmart, too. I think it's the first generation Rhoomba re-issued for Walmartites.

Why bother? Are these really worth anything? I guess I could get one to entertain my cats!

I don't think they would take the place of a regular vacuum at any point, but they have to be good for in betweens, and of course the cats:

I'd be scared that the cat's tail would get jammed in those counter-rotating sweeper/beater brushes.

Roomba

I have a Roomba Discovery, I had it for about 2 years now and I like it for an everyday thing to keep the dog and cat hair levels down. It doesnt really take the place of a real vacuum but it does the job decent on carpet and really well on tile floors. Its nice to be able to just set it before I leave somewhere and when I get back the carpets are fur free!

My opinion on roomba's

They are just motorized carpet sweepers with absolutely no suction. They take an hour to clean a room that a hoover elite could clean in five minutes. They only sweep the surface of the carpet, not deep clean. Also, they don't pick up very much. And I-robot does't expect them to pick up very much either. Just look at the size of the collection bin. If it really cleaned as well as a kirby, then I-robot would make it have a decent amount of collection space. But no. They gave it a collection bin that holds about a cup of dirt. A hoover would pick up about 6 cups of dirt in a fraction of the time. That's why I stay away from roomba's.

I can see where they would be handy for an elderly or disabled person living in a small house or apartment. And if a person had a pet hair problem.
Its too bad that the general public thinks its a vacuum cleaner,,,they have no idea that its just a glorified carpet sweeper.
The last time i walked thru my local Sears store, i stopped to look at the Roomba's, and asked the salesman if they did a good job "Vacuuming",(just to see what he would say),,he said they were an awsome "Vacuum Cleaner". HAHA,,,OK,,,sell baby sell!

I would never attempt to vacuum a house with one, but I can see where they would come in handy in between weekly cleaning.

We have had a Roomba discovery for 3 years and just recently got the 530. We use it everyday and Dyson on the weekends. The Dyson will still pick up heaps of fine dust
