I have a Vital friction sweeper made by the Vital Manufacturing Co. in Cleveland, Ohio. From what I have read, the Vital Rand was designed by Kirby and was the predecessor of the Wireless Vacuette. My question - is my Vital sweeper at all related to the Vital Rand ?
It appears that they are completely separate machines....I did look at the Secty. of State of OH website and saw that the Vital Man. Co. was incorporated in 1938 and the Officers have names I don't recognize as "Kirby people". That's not to say that Vital didn't operate prior to 1938 and may have been organized by Kirby originally.

It probably is; I don't know for sure. Beautiful vac! It is rare to see them without holes in the bag and at least 1 broken front wheel.

The Vital Rand was a Kirby prototype.

The first Vital Rand is a dead ringer for the wireless Vacuette, I have one of each and they look identical. Also, both are made in Cleveland, Ohio. James B. Kirby did a lot of testing before he joined forces with Scott and Fetzer in 1917. He also put patents in the names of other people, so Vital Rand may be a company he started but let others run.

Rand

Is one of the many people to break out and start a different company.
Black and Decker became one. Lamb is another. This is known but Rand may not be to eb
Everyone.
Ingersoll Rand makes alot of construction equipment. Just FYI fact.
