Tyler and David....

Tyler, what a great set. I have a Technics receiver, multi-disc cd carousel, and dual cassette deck, paired with ancient 3-way MCS speakers from my previous system. My first stereo was from JC Penney and I think MCS stood for modular component series, and they are still good although I had to replace one of the woofers a long time ago

David, I have been in my current house 25 yrs. I bought it thinking it was my starter house, but will end up staying in it until they haul me off to the home. Nothing wrong with being settled and comfortable! I know you don't have basements out there, but if you'd see mine, you'd be glad you didn't have one. My basement is unfinished, and while not a bad basement, it is FULL! It's a standing joke that no newbies to my home are allowed into the basement! There were some here once that broke the rule, and you know, I don't think they've ever been back!

If I recall correctly, a lot of MCS components were made by Technics and a lot of it was really good, better than one would expect of store brand gear. They just don't make stuff like that anymore.

MCS was made by several companies, sansui, technics, some pioneer and fostex, the speakers were mostly technics/pioneer depending on which system was bought. There was a certain model of speaker they had that was technics linear line which was a really nice sounding line. I miss the analog stuff.

Hi-fi from the 40's just after the war-war technology is what made that HI-Fi set possible. The PP amp-the introduction of PM speakers-some models-and a horn tweeter-modeled after cinema horns. The seller gives no indication if the unit works. Was it upgraded to a 33/45 RPM TT?The orig Windsors had a 78 TT.

Dog gone it! Another thing to spend money on. Now I'm looking for vintage stereo myself. Went to couple sales and struck out. Eventually I'll find my gear but being that I'm looking for the holy grails I have my work cut out for me.
Pioneer SX series
Marantz
Yahmaha 9090
Sansui
Just a few. So the hunt begins.

Appreciate the link. Think I'm leaning towards something with a blue fascia. Perhaps your right. No top of the line gear. Either the Pioneer SX737,828 Marantz 22 series etc. Nothing extravagant. Middle of the road stuff reasonably priced. Looking at some eBay bids they seem reasonable for the lower end gear. I like a clean uncluttered look without a lot of knobs & buttons.

My sister has the Pioneer. The Kenwood I got in 1984 died a few years ago. Japanese components seek to last longer.
Love the old Marantz recievers.
There is this cool shop in Orchard Lake, Mi. that sells vintage audio. They also refurbish. Saw it on Craigs list.
Remember Luxman? Macintosh? Harmon Kardon? Nikko? They have it all!

I found the Sony set up at a garage sale last summer for $5 dollars. Not a scratch on it. Vintage 90's.
Fills the heart room and kitchen with sound at lower than 1/4 volume.

Just purchased a Realistic STA-2100D AND a pair of Mach one's to go with it. The gent I bought it from loved RS.
Unfortunately when I bought it home yesterday the sound would intermittently go through one speaker then another. For a second both turned on. This morning I gave it a good cleaning and while it powered on with all lights working-no sound. So off to the stereo hospital to get fixed. Wish I knew what the problem was but seeing I'm not an electrician I'll leave that to the experts.

Brandon,
It sounds like your receiver needs to be 're-capped'--to have the capacitors replaced. It's a good thing you have a repair facility near you. I wouldn't know where to take my stereo gear around here.

All fixed up & running! Took a month but how sweet it sounds. It turned out to be the circular buttons in front that was cutting out the sound.
