Vintage Kenmore

I really like all the Birtman Electric Company models they built for Sears.

They have a unique sound. The upright had a belt that was enclosed, even though it was a fan-first type of upright. The belt eran in a trough in the middle so dirt never touched it. Also, it had a slide in tool converter that slid in from the rear underneath - like a Hoover would do on the Convertible.

Can you believe they actually sold this one with a cherry wood cabinet to roll it into for storage?

The fabled KenKarts. The green one, with the flat lid, is very rare. They only sold it for a short period of time.

That cabinet is gorgeous and back when every appliance was made to blend into your home seamlessly.

Those Kenkarts are pretty cool. I almost got one twice in the past years, but got outbid. Was going to use as a car vac as the roll-around cart style is perfect for that.

While not as vintage as the Mid Century Modern 1950's models, this mid 1960's Kenmore is just stunning. Much thanks to Alex Braun for the machine and one-of-a-kind power nozzle.

Beautiful Kencarts!

It’s so interesting to me that the cart machines changed so often in the 50’s, the same way that the car designs changed in the 50’s. Seems like each new year model was such a contrast from the year before it.

In older homes closet space was at a premium. There for the need to find a storage space for equipment. Make a cabinet to store the vacuum in that fit in with the rest of the decor.

People have come up with covers that looks like a doll or similar to cover up an upright vacuum that there was no space in closet for.

Is the power head on the Kenmore canister original or adapted to fit?

Those Whirlpool power nozzles are very rare. I saw one as a child in my neighborhood. It went with a Whirlpool commercial canister.

That Whirlpool canister with the power head is stunning. Just like a Lady Kenmore canister but attractively styled. Nice! I think I tried a Pink Lady Kenmore power team but don't remember the experience.

The Kencarts are fascinating. How was the user supposed to take these up and down a flight of stairs? I guess they were best for ranch style homes or one-level apartments....

My very first was a Kenmore Commander on the cart

Just like the one in the first pic. After I wore it out, I got this gently worn model for Xmas.

Here's mine. My parents had that same model when I was a kid for cleaning the basement and cleaning out the cars. The "prrrrrrreeeeeeeeeennnnnn" sound it made when it started up used to startle me when I was little, but I love hearing it now.
