So,

Over on www.automaticwasher.org , there was a thread concerning the old Frigidaire factory, and that it was slated for demolition. I mean it has not been used in a few years by G.M. and has recently, being empty been the victim of a fire.

It made me want to find vacuum cleaner factories that are no longer in use.

I've found several, but not many. I figured that we could try and find as many as we could as a group....

Here's what I've found so far...

First is the old Apex works in Cleveland Ohio. Some buildings are still extant, and some are gone. But for the most part you can still see what buildings made up the Apex Complex, complete with streets surrounding, and the railroad right of ways that originally entered the plant...

Chad, that was a very interesting thread, thanks for taking the time to search all of that out!! Terry

I looked at the map of Detroit and you're right the 6060 block of Hamilton street was paved over with the Lodge Fwy and 94 interchange. If the block numbers corresspond to Woodward Ave then it would have been about 2 blocks west of that interchange. Near Holden St.. which as I recall from my misspent youth housed the Interchange Bar.

The new filter queen office is in Cleavland Ohio. yes that was the old filter queen plant. I will email my friends at fitler queen to see when they moved.

I just searched some of the surrounding streets like 6060 2nd Ave and it also corresspond to the corner two blocks away where Holden intersects Lodge which back then would have been Hamilton St.

According to this article the Lodge was built right thru the middle of the plant

Burritt hoped to merge with another manufacturer whose products, distribution system, and production facilities would complement those of Eureka. Burritt was also eager to evacuate Eureka's outdated factory--and Detroit--because of what one vice-president called "the contamination of the Detroit labor area," meaning the highly unionized workforce in that city. Also, a superhighway was set to be built through the center of Detroit and the middle of Eureka's plant. Burritt
