Hi everyone. I went to the flea market this weekend. Unfortunately I didn't find anything interesting. I did run across a viking canister vacuum. I've never heard of viking vacuums. This one had a power nozzle. It was white and grey, silver hose and a black and white powenozzle with a hedlight. I don't know if anyone collects viking vacuums but I thought I would mention it just in case. I would have just gotten it in case but the woman wanted 80.00 for it. She said they were really expensive new. If anyone collects viking I can get it next weekend. It looked like it was in good condition. It had the powernozzle and a silver hose. It also had a cloth hose, dusting brush, corner tool, bare floor tool and 2 extension tubes.

Viking vacuums,
Jill, Viking was a Canadian brand sold by Eaton dept. stores. Most were Eureka sourced steel canisters. Some were imported elongated plastic Electrolux canisters from Sweden with added Eureka power heads.
If you google Viking vacuum cleaner photos, you should have a search result with waterfall pictures and many from this website members uploaded previously.

Another Viking was made by Panasonic. No power nozzle, from the 1960's. Off white with a large chrome carry handle.

That looks almost just like the orange Eureka I used to have, same color and everything. And a darned fine machine it was, too. I sometimes wish I still had it.

There is a smaller version of that orange Eureka for sale on Ebay. Has been for quite awhile.

Though Eureka made many Viking vacuums for Canada's T. Eaton Company department store, there was also a line of vacuums labelled Viking which actually were high end 120volt versions of European Electrolux vacs. I think before Eaton's went bankrupt in the 1980's, the name Viking could not be used by AB Electrolux unless it was made for Eaton's. So these vacs were labelled Dometic or Husqvarna for the North American market. After Eaton's closed, AB Electrolux used the name Viking on these vacs and on Husqvarna sewing machines. Here is the link to that thread, which explains more about the Swedish vacs labelled Viking for the Viking Sewing Machine dealers. The vac in question is most likely not a Eureka-made Eaton Viking vac (though some of these may indeed have been brought to Florida by Canadian retirees). But with the reference to a "cloth hose", I guarantee you we are talking about a Swedish vac, not a Canadian one.

That explains the use of Eureka power nozzles on the Swedish Vikings. AB E-Lux bought Eureka in 1974.
I've never seen a Dometic, or a Husqvarna in the states. only Dometic RV refrigerators, and Husqvarna lawn mowers and sewing machines.

It seems that Husqvarna has been a Swedish maker of sewing machines since the 1800's. One of their models was called the Husqvarna Viking.
AB Electrolux acquired the company in 1978. By that year, Husqvarna had already been selling their sewing machines in North America. I suppose Electrolux saw this Husqvarna market as an opportunity to add high end Swedish-made canister vacs to the line-up sold in the sewing machine stores. Just like Singer had done for so many years before. So that's how we North Americans end up with a Made in Sweden 120-volt Electrolux canister vacuum labelled Husqvarna Viking (some featuring a power nozzle made by Eureka in the 1980's)
