Vibra Beat Descendant?

"Another MD innovation! We added three flexible, non-marking cords side by side in a vacuum head to create this amazing furniture cleaning tool. The beating action and vacuum suction combined is your ‘smart bomb’ for lifting and cleaning that deep down dirt in sofas, mattresses, chairs, – anything PADDED that collects dust."

OK, the concept is sound. MD took the Eureka VibraBeat, which is probably out of patent now, and re-engineered it to be quieter by replacing the 3 rows of cylindrical hard plastic beads strung on piano wire with solid neoprene bands. I searched and can't find a close-up view but they appear to be fat and flat strips. It'll work fine to pummel upholstery fabrics...until the bands stretch, unless they have a piano wire or woven nylon belt core running down the inside. The reason, no doubt, that is is not recommended for carpets as the rubber would tend to get all snarled up and bent as it catches and snags on pile on the to-and-fro.

I'd like to see and examine one of these first hand. They seem to be available at just about any Central Vac shop.

Ah well, I like the wacky clattering charm of the VibraBeat and it does have startle appeal when demonstrating to newbies although VibraBeats are not really that effective. Ya can't beat a Handy-Mate type motor-driven - and I don't mean air turbine power - mini brushroll for stair treads and upholstery. ('cause hefting a Hoover 28 Beaterbar upright up onto the furniture is soooo awkward).

i remember the first time i used a vibrabeat rug tool, it made so much noise it scared me, i turned the vac off fast as i thought something was wrong with its motor. it had 3 rows of little plastic tubes, about 12 on each row. quite a clatter, a dial on the front was marked vibra or vac. the vac position tightened the rows of beaters so they did not vibrate. neat thing.

Mike, thanks for sharing that. I think I really want one of those attachments!! Looks like fun.

I have one; it works great! I use it on the upholstery and whenever I vacuum my mattress. I use it with my Kirby and the curved wand from my Legend. It looks like an original attachment!
