For people not aware of Very/Littlewoods, their prices are at least 30% more than elsewhere due to their weekly payment options. Still, vacuums is vacuums!

Very prices are a lot cheaper than Littlewoods, just compare the two websites online. The Miele S6 Cat & Dog currently on offer from Very at £199 is "on offer" at Littlewoods for £249. The price differences are due to Littlewoods offering interest free credit terms and free delivery.
Historically, traditional mail order catalogues were always more expensive than the high street due to the credit terms offered and the 10% commision given to agents who would lend the catalogue out to their customers and collect the weekly payments. Before the internet, home shopping catalogues were very popular and offered easy credit for people who may not have been able to get credit or hire purchase from a store. I have purchased dozens of vacuum cleaners from catalogues when I was too young to get credit. Before I was 18 I was allowed to have a catalogue in my Mum's name and the twice yearly big Grattan, Kays or Freemans catalogue were a highlight of my young life. Apart from the vacuum cleaners, the catalogue had other items of interest, not always items that you could buy, if you get my meaning ;-)
I use Very a lot, mainly due to the fact I get staff discount as I used to be an assistant manager of a Littlewoods store and was allowed to keep my discount when I was made redundant after all the Littlewoods stores closed. I used to get discount from Index too before they were closed down and bought a fair few cleaners from them. Very prices are cheaper than Littlewoods because although the goods are identical, they don't offer free delivery and "interest free credit". Anything purchased from Very on credit attracts interest, unless you either pay for the items in three interest free installments or choose to delay payment for up to 12 months. As long as you pay the amount off before the buy now pay later period is over, you pay absolutely no interest, so you can get 12 months interest free credit with Very. If you don't pay by the due date though, the interest is added on from the date you received the goods and you are charged further interest on the amount until it's paid off.
So although you can get some items cheaper elsewhere, the buy now pay later terms are very attractive, providing you make sure you clear the balance before the due date.

Roger - you might remember the free incentives of joining up - I remember the ads very well - my parents eventually signed to Kays catalogue for a twin set of cheap PRC Murphy branded corded landline telephones. They were absolutely awful but I'll tell you = they lasted a good 20 years!
Other "free" appliances consisted of a food processor (usually the Morphy Richards one my gran also had in white) but a yellow one is shown in Bridget Jones Diary 1 when she makes thr blue onion soup, or a clock radio, or vouchers - I don't think a free vacuum cleaner was ever offered, sadly.

Oh yes, I forgot about the free gifts! I remember having a choice of gifts or money off my first order. I always chose the money off option.

why is everything nowadays centered around BAGLESS BAGLESS BAGLESS! haha.. whats wrong with having a BAG on a vacuum. I wish they'd come out with an awesome HOOVER Soft bag for domestic use. Direct Air of course and a good agitator.. WISHFUL THINKING!

Mr Dyson is now a billionaire thank you very much, and most people now worship the soil he stands on. They would be prepared to pay half a grand in this country for one of his superbly manufactured top quality Malaysian machines.

Mr Hoover needs to come up with something that will knock-out Sir Dyson.. LOL!!
They need to reincarnate a modern Convertible/Senior or Hoover Concept One Uprights With some type of modern bag that will filtrate really well,along with really good disposable flitration bags and a modern sleek design with a variety of modern colors and/or color combos and LED lights, but be very efficient. FUSTRATING! lol

We've already got what you just listed - its called the Kirby Sentria 2 - it even has LED lights, and Hepa Filtration. Its how Hoovers used to be, in the good old days, before Dyson.
i know...
but i meant as in the styling of a Convertible/Senior, bag behind the handle. and the non bell shaped nozzle head. maybe add a on/off switch brushroll, if you must have hepa filtration, then work it into the motor housing somehow. Oh the possiblities... but NO.. everyone is sooooo twerked up about BAGLESS BAGLESS BAGLESS!! RECHET!!!!!

In the States, you already have the Tandem air models that work via direct air system on carpets, and bypass on the hose, so its the best of both worlds - we don't get anything like that in the UK. The only direct air machines we can get here are Kirbys and Orecks.
Trying to get a bagged upright in the UK is getting harder now, as many stores just don't stock them any more, its all bagless, and made in the Far East as you say. If we want bagged uprights then we have to order them online from the few online retailers who stock Miele or Sebo bagged uprights.
Dyson has had a profound effect on the bagged market, and if it wasn't for the Germans (Miele, and Sebo), we'd only have a couple of bagged uprights left to choose from in the UK, because, as you know, we don't manufacture anything here any more.
