Hi everyone!

I would really really love some advice on picking a new carpet cleaner.

Basically I live in a small house in the English countryside, next to a farm and own a very large cat who frequently come in with muddy paws onto a beige carpet! So I need to be able to wash my carpet and spot clean on a fairly regular basis, I'm thinking I'd want to shampoo the carpet maybe once every 2 weeks ish.

Anyway I am considering 2 carpet cleaners in my price range the Vax 6151F from Argos (see link) and the Numatic George.

I would be so so grateful if anyone let me know if they have the new Vax with its spinscrub head, and I al leaning more toward the vax since it has that attachment.

While I know the George is built to last ( Mum has had a Henry for years)I worry about the carpet washing side if it since it only has a fish tail extractor. I have used those type of hired carpet washers in the past and I an not sure about the hole just spraying water on and sucking it off method.

The new Vax spinscrub head looks like it has turbine powered brushes that will literally give the carpet a good scrubbing.

Please if anyone could give me any advice I would be so grateful.

Many Thanks

John

With all due respect

I would go for neither of them.

Personally I would choose an "upright" style carpet shampooer which has both clean and dirty water tanks, which allow you to first shampoo and then rinse the carpet.
This allows at least sone of the shampoo residue to be rinsed out - this residue can actually act as a magnet for dirt over time.
There are quite a few models around, Vax produces a several of them. I have had one for several years now and I am still very happy with it. I appreciate that there may be a space issue for you, but I have a small house too and I would not be without mine.

Thanks!

Thank-you for the advice!

When you say first wash and then rinse, does the machine do it all for you, or do you have to fill with detergent first and go over carpet, then repeat with only clean water in the tank?

Use

Mine is an older model Vax Rapide (plus, I think)

I could have been clearer in my earlier post, sorry. Mine has tanks for clean water, dirty water and the cleaning solution. Water/cleaning solution is dispensed by pressing a trigger in the handle, there is a switch to say whether solution is included in the water. I usually go over an area with water/solution, then again with suction only to remove as much of the moisture as possible, and repeat with water only (solution button turned off). I will normally empty the collection tank a couple of times as it can get a bit heavy, but that is really easy to do. Mine has two rows of rotatingt brushes, these are in use though all teh operations above.

Mine has the option of an extra hose and smaller nozzle which can be used on stairs or more particularly on teh upholstered arms of chairs

We had a VAX pet 6140, it was good, good carpet washer too, but has no brush to scrub the carpet when washing :( its a very good washer though and impressive at sucking up water, dust etc :D
