Vacuums For Future House In Asheville, NC

In 2016, my family and I will be moving to a smaller house in Asheville. Because of living in a smaller home, I will be getting rid of my Windtunnel, Steamvac, and Powerforce.

Can anyone list ideas for vacuums suitable for smaller houses? I considered a Riccar Supralite/Simplicity Freedom for an 8 pound upright, and a Simplicity Flash for quick pickups in my future room. I also considered a steam mop with reusable pads, to use on the bare floors.

Plus there's a vacuum store in Asheville, that'll help us.

You have quite some time (2016) why don't you wait and see when you move what vacuum will be suitable for the new place.... Your putting the cart before the horse here.

That's where Biltmore House is. Been there and loved it. Back in the turn if the last century 1906 to be exact, they had a vacuum cleaner called the Inbibsuble which was designed for a man named Skinner. The original Chapman'Skinner was lost in the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906. Today, they use a Rainbow.

Asheville NC

Asheville is one of the all round great areas in US.Have you visited?Do you know what house in which area you will move?I visited a great uncle close to downtown and family from childhood and later another aunt and family lived in Beaverdam area if you know any of the other communities.I am just over the mountain on what is now I-26 that replaced a 2 lane crooked mountain road.You do have some time before moving but I would be available for a thrift/antique tour at any time.Also a bookstore tour if you read.As above millionaire George Vanderbilt traveled the world and chose Asheville for Biltmore House.You should also see or at least for now Google Grove Park Inn.One of the great early resorts that boasted of using Hoover to clean about 1915.The last time I saw a vac there it was a Mighty Maid version of Vorwerk.Biltmore not only has used Rainbow as above(pictured in a Southern Living magazine and I have seen large water tank in closet on behind the scene tour)but has also bought Eureka Mighty Mites from Ashevilles great vac store that is now on 3 generations of owners.But back to vacs-Any chance house will have central vac?The classic choices to me are Hoover upright and Electrolux tank but there are many other good choices some of which can be found here.Or maybe in the old school building turned into giant thrift store between me and Asheville!--If you are vacationing or visit relatives as I did years back during the trasition from NJ to NC let me know.I would love an excuse for a day off to show you the Ashville I know and have known.You are to late for Uncle Bills(?)junk store that was turned into an upscale boutique but the new Habitat store is one of the greats and more and more!How did your family choose Ashville?I think you will find as G Vanderbilt did that from the climate on down a long list it will be a good choice.

My current recommendation for easy cleaning without breaking the bank:

1. The Hoover Platinum Lightweight Bagged Upright for deep cleaning of all carpets ($250) (get the version that does not come with the companion canister...waste of money)
2. The Miele Olympus suction only canister for cleaning all other surfaces ($300)
3. If you want to splurge, add the Miele HomeCare tool kit in a briefcase to upgrade to larger more deluxe tools ($150)
4. Add the lightweight rechargeable cordless SwifferVac for speedy cleaning of bare floors daily ($35)

So for $750 you get a high-performing, easy-to-use lightweight arsenal of cleaners!!!

If you go to Big Lots you can get the Hoover Platinum upright Eurekaprince mentions above for $99 factory reconditioned.  This does not include the companion canister, and does have a factory warranty.

I think I'd be curious and wait to see what new machines and technology are on the market in 2016. 3 years could bring some very exciting things to the market and some of the machines we'd recommend now may no longer be in production.

I hope there's better power head canisters in 2016 myself!!!

Well I'm not getting a Miele, nor a Platinum Lightweight. I would rather get a Riccar Supralite/Simplicity Freedom and a Simplicity Flash for the new vacuums. And I hate Swiffer.
