vacuums at Wal-mart

I was in Wal-mart today getting a few things and took a stroll down the vacuum aisle. They had the new Hoover Patinum vacuum there, the black and silver bagged one that comes with a separate canister. Since they had just put it out, the price tag for the bottom of the line Bissell was right in front of their floor model of the new Hoover. Anyone think I should have made a fuss with the manager and tried to get the vacuum for 49.99? Or sue them for false advertising! Well, I didn't, but the thought did enter my mind... LOL

I was thinking, if someone FORCED you to buy a vacuum from Wal-mart, what model would you get? I think I'd go to the brooms and mops aisle and get a broom since it would work better. Okay... maybe not. If I had to choose now, it would be the new Hoover. Even though it's made by TTI, I like the fact that a modern company is offering a zippered bagged model, and in a big box store nonetheless! But, before that, I would have chosen the Eureka Boss bagged... the one that is usually 149.99... used to also be a member of the Smart Vac series, and was gray, yellow, teal, maroon, and green! If they were all out of those, I would get a Dyson.

I was in Lowes today as well, saw the new green Electroluxes... pretty tacky if you ask me! They are closing out the S/P Windtunnel (Wal-mart hasn't had it for some time now), but I did notice the new "Convertible" (a rebadgged WindTunnel V2 or Savvy). Kinda made me sick to see that name on that machine... to see that machine at all.

So, if you HAD to choose one, what would it be? I like questios like this... one day, I want to see a cooking show do a challenge where the chefs have to present a gourmet meal and get all their ingredients from the dollar store!

This is a tough question. If it was at wal-mart I would probably buy the bagged Hoover Windtunnel, same would go with any other store unless it is Sears Roebuck and then I would choose a $149 Kenmore Progressive bagged upright, which for the money is very good for a new vacuum.

As for your thought about having gourmet cooks preparing a gourmet meal with only ingredients from the dime store is great.Only thing is I can't imagine you could do much with top ramen, pork and beans, and canned deviled ham. And dessert made with old little debbie cakes and penny candy, very interesting, we should try it sometime.

Well, I wouldn't choose the Eureka Boss. I had one. It's very good on carpet. However, that's about it. The bare floor switch broke almost as soon as I bought it. I found the bag hard to change too. But I'm not too bright with bags! And the airflow with the tools wasn't great and the hose clogged easily. I think I would go with the $49 Bissell. It's the only bagged model my Walmart sells. And it will probably last about as long as most of the others, so why spend the extra money? BTW, the new Electrolux comes in red too. I saw it on the HSN website.

Eureka Boss Smart Vac

If I had to. I was actually just there yesterday and checked them all out. It has a bag, and, the primary air passage from the nozzle to the bag is quite big in diameter. The switch to swich over to tools is on the top facing surface, and shunts the suction over to the ride-along hose. It also has a "sealed" hepa filter on teh exhaust, which in my evaluation does look to seal pretty tightly. This is not to say it couldnt leak somewhere else.

Of great dissapointment was the GE canister they had. It used to be a decent machine, but they must have cost reduced it. The canister looks ok, but the powerhead is dissapointing. I turned it over and it has one of those small diameter brush rolls, and had obviously been used to clean up around the store because it was wound solid with hair and stuff.

Hoover (bagged) Windtunnel

I lived in my house for 10 years. Bought my kirby heritage
used. Then decided I'd put it in my Kirby line up in the basement. So then I bought a bagged Windtunnel at Walmart
I think. I used it for 8 years, most of the time. Then
I bought the $99.00 verison from the Hoover store for my
daughter and my son. They love them, especilly since I
gave them a set of Panasonic (upright) tool sets with the
long hose, extra attachments and a Windtunnel power nozzle
for the steps and funiture. I have never had to do anything
but change bags on mine. My son, clogged the intake hose with
something but cleaned it out himself. I think I have put one
new belt on my daughters in 9 years. It gets used hard. As my grandson likes to vacuum too !!!

Bagged Bissel

I used to buy them for my cleaning company. They were beasts and great vacuums. I used to cut open the bag and restaple it shut if I was on a job and it got full. It is light and cheap enough that I was not worried about breaking it. We used to have all orecks and well that was not worth having. They did not take the abuse well of my employees. I used a Sebo but I know how to take care of things and would not give them to just anyone. I even had a name tag on my sebo.
