Your hard work has paid off!

Hi Tom,

The new museum in Rolla, looks great; very inviting. I will look forward again, when I can make the trip, and see the new vacuum shop and museum. Do you still have your Eureka Empress? That was always one of my favorites to operate at your old location.

The best to you, as you begin this new business chapter in your life.

Tom

Thanks for info. It's really neat to see them. It's even cooler seeing you get your groove back.
You do have quite the museum in next few years I should drop buy that is if you are in the same building and not upgraded for more space because of the success of the business.
Hope it keeps running better than expected. I'm glad you are fulfilling your potential. You are an inspiration for all.
Congrats
Les

I think it's wonderful you are able to continue the museum in your own dealership, I wish you the best of luck. Aerus Electrolux and Rainbow make some high quality vacuums. A lot of times it's better to have a museum like this privately than under a corporate ownership. You have an impressive collection indeed. One machine in the museum that I took special note of was that G.E. Twin Power upright from about 1959. Do you still have that one on display?

can't wait to visit

Glad you have the new museum up and running, and now it's on your terms, not another company's. It sounds like Tacony is making some decisions that are going to make them go down in flames, now they will not take you with them. I was going to suggest using the Eureka 900 canister, or how about one of the zappers? Any canister cleaner will do.

n0oxy,

Tacony was already going down, which is likely why they made the tough decision to quit funding the museum. Consumer Reports selects vacuums to test partially by market share. There's not a single Riccar/Simplicity model tested currently. Miele and Sebo have vacuums tested. No Rainbow, no Aerus/Lux, no Riccar/Simplicity/Maytag models tested.
I'm assuming that Tacony gambled too much on the tandem uprights. Their products are expensive and too heavy. I have to assume that Miele has been eating their lunch with both canisters and uprights (other than the light weights).

What’s the address?

My good friend and I are planning on visiting this museum on the morning of June 15th and would like to find this place. Could you possibly send me the address please? Thank you! Can’t wait to go!

The tandem air uprights work well-but draw TOO MUCH power-their cords run warm.A Kirby or Royal metal upright,or even Sanitaire upright does just as well with HALF the power consumption. The tandems are still kinda fun to use, though.an unusual vacuum for a collector.

Tandem air

They are beast of a vacuum cleaner. I like the versatility of them. They don't have loads of power but above average on brushroll and attachments. I think other companies tried new technology and it didn't work. They tried and suceeded in new technology. Im just stating versatility of the vacuum and performance Kirby, royal, eureka don't have.
Those might have higher cfm but tandem has brush roll and hose readily available.
They like every vacuum company are getting killed by bagless and central vacs. There are not many vacuum companies standing. The mighty Sears Roebuck company 50 years ago the largest company in the world. It's bankrupt and existing on hedge funds that will bankrupt it out of existence in the next year.
Amazon puts 2 out of every 3 businesses out of business.
Companies are ran alot different than they used to be. Brick and mortar is giving way to the e commerce boom with alot lower overhead.
I'm just glad to see Tom is making it work and suceedeeding. Corporate America is cut throat and loves no one.

Excellent Work Tom!

You've done a great job getting the museum set up! Nice displays, well laid out, of some great machines. Congrats on a job well done, and wishing you the best always,
Jeff

I own both the tandem air vacuums and Royal and Kirby----The Kirby and the Royal actually do a BETTER job than a tandem air with LESS power draw.Problem with the tandem airs is their COMPLEX,conveluted airpaths.Now-if that could be simplified--then their performance could be BETTER!!And these machines are bulkier, heavier than a Kirby or Royal upright.I use mine on occasions-but they are NOT my go to vacuum as the Kirbys or Royal metal uprights.

central vacuums

Central vacuums are awesome. I have 9 units in my apartment and I use them all free standing without pipes. The power is awesome, it will clean better than any portable cleaner, canister, upright or anything else. Nothing even comes close. Since you don't have pipes to restrict the airflow, you get the full power of the machine. Just attach a utility valve to the intake and connect your hose.
Tacony is now selling their simplicity vacuums through on line stores but not Riccar. If you go to the Riccar site they are sold for the full retail price, that is where they are behind the times. In the central vacuum world, MD and Cyclovac are the same way, you must go through a dealer to get their units, again, very behind the times. Of course, it is a manufacturer's right to sell their product in the way they choose, but these days, if you don't sell on the internet, you will lose sales.

Dealer sales-remember thru a dealer he can DEMENSTRATE the unit to you before you buy it.You CAN'T do that with online sales-and buying online to me can be a HASSLE!!and if you want something often its like ice cream--YOU WANT IT NOW!!!!The dealer can do that! And thru the dealer you can also try the machine out before buying.Hard to try out with online sales--if you don't like the device you have to go thru the hassle of sending it back.Just be sure you want it!

Our Chamber of Commerce grand opening

One of the first things I did after opening the new store was to join the Chamber of Commerce. We had our grand opening and ribbon-cutting yesterday. I was lucky to have my husband and my mother-in-law as well as my father-in-law with me for this important day. You can’t imagine what it feels like to own your own business. I am so happy not to have to answer to a greedy, hateful major corporation any longer. I’m free at last. I am so lucky that we have an awesome chamber of commerce in this town. Many of them have become friends over the years, and I have sold most of them commercial vacuum cleaners for their businesses.

Opening the store

Way to go Tom. The Chamber of Commerce is such a good support for an individual business.
I really like the colors you have used on the walls. It makes both the new machines and the vintage machines really stand out.
