Vacuum Info & Hose? Anyone?

Hi Again, Folks!
Well, my Electrolux Diploamt really needs a hose as the only one I can find around here is $90 at a vacuum shop. Is anyone here selling a cheaper one? it can be genuine, Generic, or Woven (with approx. 60% suction or better). Also, could someone give me some info on the machine? I have a picture from before i got it and when i find my 'freeking' camera will post another picture.

Look for Electrolux plastic canister hose (2100, or LE style).


It should have a notch on the end.

I found one for $40 on Hesco. Im reluctant as i cant stand generic. if the one at the store is genuine, ill get it since it will be a cheap genuine. Calling them tomorrow

Manufactured in 1991-1992 the cleaner is a Model 1677/Diplomat LX. Its colors are navy and light sand. It was the second iteration of the Diplomat. The LX suffix (see the coronet symbol on the name label) refers to "lux", the unit of illuminance in the International System of Units (SI) which denoted the factory-paired lighted power nozzle, Model 1692.

Both the Model 2100/Diplomat (1988-1991) and the Model 1677/Diplomat LX were automatic and were the top-of-the-line lexan-bodied cleaners. I am not aware of any internal differences, but others may. Both would have been factory-equipped with the white woven vinyl hose with navy chevron tracers (which appears to be featured in your 2nd photo). That style of the lexan-bodied cleaners had been introduced in Canada in 1982 with the E-2000 (automatic) and E-Special (manual) and brought to the States in 1985 when the Canadian and USA Electrolux companies merged.


As an aside, AB Lux, so named because it manufactured and sold large kerosene lamps for railway stations, was one of the original companies that merged to form "Electrolux" in 1919. It has since become independent from AB Electrolux of Sweden and is known as Lux International.

From 1912 to 1991* the "Lux" part of "Electrolux" did not refer to its illuminated product line as competition from other companies and the growing use of electricity had made kerosene lamps unprofitable and its line of "air purifiers and cleaners" were not illuminated. Nonetheless, AB Lux's heritage was symbolized in the original Electrolux logo with light rays.

*I'm unsure when AB Electrolux of Sweden and other subsidiaries such as Electrolux (Canada) Ltd. introduced lighted power nozzles, so the "1991" denotes their North American debut.

Other North American Electrolux cleaners that also carried the LX suffix during the era of the Diplomat LX were: the metal-bodied cylinder Model 1521/Ultralux LX, and the upright models 1685/Genesis LX and 1717/Genesis LXe.

North America's Electrolux and Aerus budget and commercial uprights since that time, however, have not been factory-paired or equipped with illuminated power nozzles (except for the Lux 5000). I'm unsure about the commercial canisters' power nozzles (versions of the Model CB2000).

Thanks, Ronni! Mine has a 1692 Power nozzle with a faulty switch, and an ambassador filter cover! Nathan mixed them up in shipping! i will restore those issues soon as my ambassador arrives

Yea, Ray. Those were for a diplomat. Im getting an ambassador too! For some reason, my switch on the 1692 wont turn the nozzle off

Do you by chance have a list of which power nozzles originally were paired with which cleaners from 1985 and on?

For example, my research indicated power nozzles with models 7, 7A, 7B, 1750, 1751, and 1752 and others which seem to be rare, and I've never seen them paired with a cleaner when sold online. Were they, maybe, for the central vacs?

I'm also interested in knowing the differences (besides colors) of 6, 6A, and 6B. I believe that 6 and 6A have the small brush strip on the base while the 6B does not. I wonder, too, if 6A and 6B have the metal rungs instead of the plastic ones like the 6?

That switch is really a circuit breaker, on some of the models you could push the lever forward which pressed down on the circuit breaker and shut off the power nozzle. The lever may not be moving far enough forward or the circuit breaker pin is not long enough to be pushed down by the lever. I'm trying to remember if the 1692 had 3 positions off, on and reset or was it just reset.

On another note Wayne still has the Epic 6000 and the Epic 6500 at the shop, if you're still looking.

Well, I found my Camera! Here are some pictures! Nathan mistakenly misplaced the correct Sliders and Fliter Cover so he will send those with my ambassador and I will switch them out.
The vacuum isnt perfect, and a few cracks were glued, but it works! Im fixing the wobbly power nozzle neck later.
