Co-starring Hoover

Although not contemporary, the best role of a vacuum in a movie has to be
1963's Jerry Lewis vehicle called "Who's Minding The Store?" Lewis plays a haples
dept. store employee who creates havoc while bumbling from one department to the next. The final scene involves Jerry performing a minor "adjustment" to a society matron's Hoover giving it hurricane power. The Convertible proceeds to suck up practically everything in the store until the bag is the size of the Hindenberg
Despite all the inspired silliness there is surprising product placement of major appliance manufacturers everywhere.

In close encounters of the third kind, when the aliens make this electrical charge or w/e that makes the appliances in the womans house start working on their own..theres a vacuum, it kinda looked like a kirby but yellow with a blue/green bag (lol <br
Film was ooh..mid/late 70s <br

What about that great scene in Mr. Mom when "Jaws" the vacuum cleaner is trying to eat his son's blanket (wooby)? I like how the bag explodes <br
There is that scene in Mrs. Doubtfire when he/she is vacuuming with a Hoover upright and the attachment hose is plugged into the base! She is so busy dancing that she does not notice that her cleaner is set up for tool use <br
I am sure that there are many other vacuum scenes out there...does anyone remember any others <br

Yeah, I've probably watched Mr. Mom at least 200 times just for that one scene! It was a bastardized Kirby Classic. I thought it was so cool how Michael Keaton modified it for remote control use <br
Tom, have you ever seen the 1960 Film "Our Man in Havana" starring Alec Guinness? In the film, he plays a Hoover dealer in Cuba who invents a machine called the "Atomic Pile vacuum cleaner." I haven't seen the film in a loooong time, but I remember seeing the Constellation, as well as several Convertibles <br

In the movie "Super Suckers" you see modified Koblentz uprights sold "DTD"Another one portriad is a modified Fantom "Wildcat" vacuum. In the TV show "The thin Man" they show the unltimate "Robotic" vacuum-Robby the robot pushing a Hoover. In the Movie "Invisible boy" also starring "Robby the Robot" they show the boys mother using her "Air Way" canister.when the boy became invisible with Robby's help and a large computer-he would play pranks on his folks. The movie is part of the new Boxed set DVD "Forbidden Planet"

The Coneheads

Does anyone remember the scene from the movie Cone Heads when the mother begins vacuuming the rug. She takes the hose, puts it in her mouth and starts vacuuming. I thought that was pretty cool. Does anyone remember the brand of power nozzle she used? Tim

Hope Floats

Anyone remember the movie "Hope Floats" with Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick Jr.? In that movie Sandra's character gets stupid drunk one night and the next day her mom wakes her up by running her "frankenkirby" right next to her bed. It looked to be some sort of older sanitronic styled model with a gold bag from a classic on it. If I remember correctly, it still had the classic patch on it. Her mom ends up leaving the vac running in her room, leaves and Sandra has to roll out of bed and goes over and yanks the cord out of the wall. Also, in "Mona Lisa Smiles" with Julia Roberts and Kirsten Dunst, Kirsten's character is posing in her home for some pics as the perfect little housewife for some sort of womens magazine (this movie was supposed to take place back in the late 50's to early 60's I think) and in one farily quick shot, she is standing in her living room posing with her Kirby as she is running it. Again, an older sanitronic styled kirby or maybe even older with some sort of reddish, brown colored bag on it.

Bewitched -TV Show

In Bewitched, Samantha Stephens used a Hoover Dial-a-Matic Model 1118 numerous times throughout the series eventhough Mommy dearest Endora always seemed to do something to the poor thing. BTW, that is Elizabeth Montgomery (Samantha Stephens) on the front page here with the Dial-a-Matic :)

Wrong post

Sorry everyone. I wasn't reading the Title correctly. Dis-regard my previous post as it is for TV and not for Movies, as was asked <br
Once again, sorry.

Wow

That is so cool to see!! I know it is not supposed to be in this thread, but does anyone have any good images of this particular vacuum cleaner?

The Hoover 1100

The first Dial-A-Matic. Since Jeff Parker (who sold me this machine) isn't posting here (even though I asked him to) I will ask Tom Anderson to give us the lo-down on this machine. It was the first Dial-A-Matic (we refer to as DAM.) It is unusual in a couple of respects. The brushroll goes backwards, and it doesn't have a height adjustment. They had a few bugs to work out, but it was the one (I believe) that Samantha used in "Bewitched." You see I also have a later one. I love these machines and they were the first Hoover "clean-air" machines meaning that the dirt went through the bag before the fan. The tool suction wasn't bad either.
