vacuum cleaner collectors convention

it was great

It was a great convention. I got two new awesome cleaners, a Perfect C105 commercial canister and my fifth dual motor 240 volt beast, an MD manufacturing silent master s900. It was great seeing friends again, I really don't use facebook so keeping in touch with everyone is a bit more difficult since I know many collectors are on the facebook forums. Alex, you should have come, I would not have let a virus that has been taken way out of proportion by the media stop you. I brought several central vacuum units to the convention and it was fun to show those off since not everyone collects central vacuum units. It was so much fun connecting my Drainvac Twin Turbo to Tom's central vacuum system and trying it with his hide a hose, it actually made his carpet stand up. I want to say thank you publicly to Reggie and Owen for making that happen, I could never have done that myself. I thought it would take at least 20 or 30 minutes to temporarily modify Tom's pipe system to connect to my unit, but they literally had it done in about 5 minutes and they made it look so easy, and maybe it was easy, I don't know, but the way they got that to work was amazing, and it was fun watching that unit pull the hose back in to the wall. And lunch on Saturday was delicious. It's really enjoyable to watch the excitement when a vacuum collector is able to add a vacuum to their collection that they ahve been wanting. I know several of us took home vacuums that we did not have before the convention. I hope we do it again next year.

It was Russ who was dragged down the hallway by the suction of your Drain Vac. With 170 inches of water lift, that 60 foot hose retracted into the wall so fast he lost his footing. I never thought I'd see a central vacuum hose drag a grown man. Thank you for bringing your Central Vacs to the Convention, as Central Vacuums were the theme this year. Owen and Reggie and Evan are 'the man' as far as installing them goes - but you also have far more knowledge of them than me. Looking forward to the Convention next year in May. You're right - the food was delicious and we sure did have plenty to go around.

s900, waterlift and next year's convention

The Silent Master S900 is a great unit, I got mine from Evan who runs a store here called the Vac Shack. Some of us paid him a visit Saturday evening during the convention and I asked him what units he had in stock and he mentioned that he had a brand new S900, 240 volt version in his garage. MD also makes a 120 volt version but it requires a 30 amp circuit which I don't have, but I do have a 240 volt outlet. He offered me a great deal on it and I'm glad I got it, I think my collection of 240 volt bagged units is now complete. It's two Ametek three stage motors in a parallel configuration which means it has very high CFM, but it's no slacker on the water lift either, it's good to have as much as you can of both.
Tom, the water lift on the Drainvac Twin Turbo is 220, and the CFM is 145, I don't think Russ expected the hose to go in that fast, I wasn't sure how fast it would go either. I propose perhaps having another central vacuum theme next year, although I guess I could bring some units regardless, there are a few other units I would love to try with your hide a hose.
If we have the convention next year in May that means that it's already less than a year away which is awesome. I think I'm going to stay until Sunday next year since that's what just about everyone else did.
I'm not sure how many of us actually collect central vacuum units, I think they are awesome, and I'm looking to get a few more in the next couple of months.

I agree, those S5 units (That's what they were previously called before) are awesome. If I were to buy a SilentMaster for my own home, the S900r/r2 would be the ones that I would go for. However I'm likely leaning towards on getting either the Flo-Master F650t or the Modern Day M715h if I were to install a unit for my own home today since the S900r/r2 or the M965h/h2 may be a bit much for me to handle but I'm not sure yet.

alternative units

@panasonicvac, do you have a 240 volt outlet in your house? I know the Flomaster 650 is a very popular unit. I think the M715 uses the Ametek 8.4 motor which is a very good motor, my Vacumaid SR800 also uses that motor. I think the S900 and M965 are very similar but they use a different method of exhausting their air.
Here are a couple of other units you may want to look at. The Drainvac Viper is an awesome unit and is probably the most powerful single motor unit on the market.

Or you might consider the Drainvac Twin Turbo, that's the unit that me and Tom were talking about, what a beast. It was so awesome seeing that work with a hide-a-hose.

There are definitely a lot of choices.

No my parent's house that currently I live in (Which not for long) does not have a 240 volt outlet for their central vacuum. As of now, there are no current plans to replace their Beam with a new unit. But if we were to replace it today, I would put in either the MD AirMaster A650tv or unless if Nuera Air would offer a GREAT deal then I would put in a Beam SC398. With those two, I don't have to worry about adding or modify any more piping. Plus both of them would already have a utility valve to use for the garage hose.

Anyways thanks for your suggestions above. Unfortunately as of now I'm passing on a Drainvac. There just isn't a dealer in my area to try one out and I will only buy from a local dealer.
