Vacuum Bags,,, Vintage that is..

Recently I have seen several posts about vintage bags of one sort or another, I want to encourage everyone to always check out old hardware stores as well as old vac shops, I have filled many totes full of all kinds of bags, Laniers Hardware in Lexington NC is a prime example, I bought a pickup bed full of bags for 75.00, this was pennies on the dollar, I believe it came to 17 cents a pack, they had them hanging there for years, and I mean all kinds, Handisacks, Hoover J, 800 and 900 Roto Matics, Hamilton Beach , Lewyt, Apex and many others, I wouldnt have gotten this deal but I asked the manager what kind of deal he could give me, seems he wanted them out of his way too!

Old Baggies!

I always look for them in thrift shops! I keep them in filing Cabinets, and have needed to buy a 2nd cabinet since this photo!


Even for the cleaners I don't yet have, It comes in handy! I bought some Kenmore style P bags some time ago, which came in handy when I found my Kenmore Heavy-Duty plus!

I even found some

RED Hoover bags for a Constellation and some for the tanks, had to be from the 50s.

To me, is a sad example of what can happen to a great company, its a real shame considering all the innovative quality products they once made.

Hoover fell victim to what has happened to most vacuum makers. The rise of commodity vacuums. Vacuum cleaners were once a high cost expenditure for a household that were expected to last for decades and were built accordingly. The rise of "free trade" and the low priced imports from Asia nearly drove everyone out of the manufacturing business. Overnight vacuums grew cheaper and cheaper until they were mass produced just like plastic spoons. This left the few remaining high quality makers with little money to innovate with. We are lucky to have a few left. We better hope they hang on.

I agree

I don't like the new style G bags for the Dirt Devil hand vacs. They leak worse than my 1954 Kirby 514. haha! That's why I look at thrift stores for the old G bags. They're a much tougher material.
