Vacuum bag fragrance

I mostly use fabric sheets or Laundry scent boosters (mostly accidentally because I still them a lot). I've seem that Kirby had some scent tablets and drops to put in the bag but haven't tried them yet.

If possible get charcoal bags, from what I hear they do a really good job.

I find that vacuuming up activated charcoal pieces into a new bag neutralizes bag smells. If I put anything else in the bag as described above, I end up smelling the stale half-full bag smell after a few weeks + whatever scent is in the bag. But the activated charcoal in the bag eliminates the stale smell completely, even when the bag is 3/4 full and time to change after weeks or months. It's just these canisters of activated charcoal you get in the pet department for fish tanks and it's not expensive at all. I find that vacuuming up some in a new bag, and then when the bag starts getting full and covered up most of the originally vacuumed up charcoal, vacuum up a little more. Usually two times per bag total. It doesn't clog the pours of the bag and it's amazing to me to be able to turn my vacuum on with a 3/4 full month or 2-month old bag and not smell anything, just a new bag smell.

I use the odors away too. 2 to 3 drops on 2 cotton balls. Suck that into the vacuum. Leaves a nice fragrance. reminds me of a deodorizer that we used years ago with carpet extraction.

"car air freshener 'trees' and similar..."

NO! NO! DON'T!

I did that once to two separate machines. Both suffered dissolved, melted plastic, where the liquid solvent in the air-freshener 'tree' pad, came into contact with the plastic of the bag compartment. In one case, the paper dust bag stuck to the dissolved plastic too. The other machine was a bagless robot, and the felt of the freshener pad glued itself to the dust box.

I remember Electrolux Ltd in the 500 and 600 series, made special mention of carpet freshening powders having the ability to damage the plastic of the machine. I had never seen that until the car 'Tree' air-freshener fiasco.

Put mothballs in a Kirby, the paradichlorobenzene will melt the Emptor cover!

If the solvents in those "tree" car deodorizers melt plastics-don't think I want one in my car-all those plastic parts in the car--and what does it do to YOU???
Did think mothballs were available anymore because of the toxins that I don't want to try to type out on this crappy keyboard.Its bad for moths-also bad for YOU!!!

Thank you to all for the suggestions...I'm definitely going to try some of them!

Also, for the warnings on what NOT to use.
I can attest to the Little Trees reacting with plastics.
We bought our Ford Explorer used, and the previous owner had apparently stuck one up over the driver's side sun visor.
The remains of it are still there...permanently bonded to the plastic!

There's actually a warning on the package to let them hang freely, and not come into contact with the surfaces in your vehicle.
I do like some of their scents, and I used to always have at least one in whatever car I owned.
More recently though, I don't use any fragrance in my vehicles.
I just enjoy the "clean car smell".
I can't say "new car smell", because our vehicles are pretty far from new! Lol

I agree with you on not using car air fresheners. I used to use these Scent Stick things, they smell really good but honestly I've realized there's no real need for adding fragrances to my cars. I often drive with the windows open but when I do use air conditioning I roll the windows down for the last minute or two before I reach my destination so I can air out the car. I've also found that cars tend to smell bad after it rains, so the next day I'll take the floor mats out so they can dry in the sun and that always helps.

I'd like to try activated charcoal in the bag but never did. My Kenmore canisters always start to stink after a while even if there's not much in the bag.

I do like the Electrolux/Eureka Arm & Hammer F&G bags I use in my Eureka The Boss. They never seem to smell, which is nice since those bags are so big and last a long time. I might not use them in a bag first machine though because I wonder if the powder could get sucked into the motor.

As someone earlier mentioned, the Oreck uprights have a small pouch in the bag that is made for their scent tablets. They work great. Also, the Oreck brand carpet crystals smell about the best (in my opinion) compared to any of the other fragrances. It is sort of a clean lemon fragrance, but not overpowering and it doesn't take very much of the product to make your space smell nice.

Scents

I like this stuff. The shop I worked at sold it. We got it from a business in Texas. There are soooo many good scents. Pure outdoors has a kind of watermelon scent to it.

Moth Balls

Yes they are still available.

Same thing as the moth crystals you used to use with vacuums years ago to de-moth clothes and closets. AND yes don't suck them into any vacuum. The Gas they emit will burn your eyes and nose and lungs. Not pleasant. I did that by accident at my grandparents house one time.

Their moth crystalator because it was proven Paradichlorobenzine fumes can trigger a asthma attack, I fumigated my vacuum storage basement just today with a Electrolux vaporizer and moth crystals, might not be good for you, but spiders etc will STAY AWAY!

I seriously can't stand

the smell of mothballs. Eucalyptus keeps spiders away too.
Anyway, the activated charcoal is not powder, it's granules, so no clogging bag pores

Vac Scents

Hi Guys,

There used to be a product that went in the bag called VacScent and came in a small aluminum pack like first aid cream in an industrial kit, just tear and throw in the bag. Anyone remember it? It worked really good probably why you can find it any more. In the dozen or so years I worked for Lux I might have sold a case of clean Sweep. It also seems to me that it had a more pleasant scent years ago, less like turpentine if you will. Never a real fan I guess. I like a couple Downy dryer sheets in the bag for scent or essential oil on a cotton ball like geranium or spearmint. It seems like this becomes more of an issue for those of us with dogs in the house. I also use the Swiss Aroma scents that are made for the Lux Intelligence/Platinum scent dispenser on the exhaust port. While they work well and allow you to fill the bag to capacity without the offensive odor of German Shorthair every time you vacuum, I like the essential oil the best as I prefer a stronger scent like you get in a Rainbow E2.
