Hi. Here are some vacs I have just got in the last few days...

1st is a Hitachi Stowaway. My auntie had one of these. Nice little vac...
Have any of you in the rest of the UK had one? Was they out anywhere else like the USA or the rest of Europe??

Spinney 600

I've been after one of these for years. This was the 3rd real vac I owned.
It broke and I replaced it with a Hoover U2002 or was it a Electrolux z502s I can't remember.

So after 20 years since I last had one I finally found another...
Just needs the original pipes and small attachments...
So if anyone has them....

Sneek!

Glad you got it, I loved mine! Shame a simple combination of dust, loose wires and a dodgey motor ment mine went up in flames :(
I think they had those hitachi Stowaways as Sanyo, or Kenmore, or such...
Makes me miss mine!

Next

Next I got from the vacuum cleaner shop that is is closing down soon as the owner is retiring.
As you can tell it's a Airway. It's not the best pic but at least you get the idea.
It even has the original recipt dated 1935 not pictured...
It still needs cleaning and polishing....

Hope you like it..

Thanks...

No probs...

I got this posted to me as well from a old lady in Plymouth who wanted it to go to a good home. It even came with the tools.
I've just cleanned the bag and cleanned it up.
It's a nice pre war 375 Hoover Junior...

Goblin...

Here, We have a Goblin Housemaid from the 70s.
It was given to me by my good friend Kevin.
The only thing it's missing is the bumper. So again if anyone has one...
I have the soft bag version as well but that is..well in need of some attention.

I love the Goblin 70s Housemaid 80s Commanders and 90s Laser vacuum Cleaners:o)

James,

In the 1980's, all the Japanese vac-makers were selling powerful, quiet little bagless vacs that stored on top of a plastic tool box. Sanyo sold these in Canada, as well. The wand was made up of 3 little sections that actually fit in the storage box along with the (too short) hose. Ours had a power switch right on the handle of the electrified hose.

Sears contracted Sanyo to make their Kenmore version which was cutely labelled "Let's Clean." :-D

Goblin

God, how I hated the Goblin machines! I remember seeing them in my mum's home shopping catalogues and thought they were utter rubbish. I thought the same of the Spinney and Rotel machines.

Years later, I worked in a shop and had the chance to examine a Goblin Housemaid upright traded in, up close. The agitator, compared to Hoover's, in my opinion, was Mickey Mouse.

Goblin...

It is true the build quality of the Goblins was not as high as others of the time but the proformance was quite decent esp when they was maintained.

The Spinney 600/800 I would actully say is of a highier quality than quite a few of the plastic vacs of the time including some of the Hoover cylinders. Esp for a cheaper vacuum cleaner.
And the Spinney 600/800 is of a far highier quality than the cheaper vacs you get now.

James, I love that housemaid of yours! Even if Goblin were naff, there is still something quite charming about them. Here is my NIB Laser that I absolutely love :)

Hi.

Hi Chris. I like your Laser. I have 4 Goblin Lasers. One light grey soft bag version, One like yours but in white and two TOL Lasers with the tools attached one red one navy blue. One is a bag system the other is a filter box system..

I'll take pics when I get chance...the red and blue ones are berried.
Or you will have to pop in when your free one day:o)
