I took in my Miele S7280 to the local vac shop last Wednesday. (8/29/12) I called this morning and he said it needed a new wiring harness and cord. The problem was the cord was getting warmer then normal and I was worried of electrical issues. (after an electrical fire I am paranoid) He then said because of the holiday the part would not arrive till next week. That will be 2 1/2 weeks to fix a vacuum that is just over a year old. I got it when we moved to Crystal City while the house was being rebuilt.

Question is: Is this normal to take so long to get a part? I just think it is rather absurd and further more could the machine have other issues if the wiring was bad?

I just use it for quick clean ups daily. For my real cleaning I use my new Rainbow that I love and yes the dust is now a non issue. Nonetheless I like having my upright to swing through the house to pick up dog hair and sand daily.

What is your take on this?

Miele parts can take that long , sometimes longer, I cringe when I customer brings in a Miele for repair, A the parts are insanely expensive, B they never seem to have stock. We have resorted to buying new units from our wallmart and stripping them, its cheaper

Gsheen...

You have Mieles in WAL-MART IN SA?

Just a matter of time before it is here, too.

I too had a Miele s524 Crystal that I needed a cord reel for. I got one thru  Gerald who is a miele distributor.  It took him 3 weeks to get a cord reel in for me.

I was once told that I would need to wait 3 weeks for a hose and it cost half the price of the vacuum new, it was not even an electric hose just a standard one

OK so parts arrive slowly...but

As the wiring harness was damaged could the motor be damaged too? Should I just ask for a new machine? Thanks for the help so far guys much appreciated.

Well I would first ask how did the wiring harness get damaged, , If thee is a short in the cord , It will get warmer, But why the wiring harness. To me it sounds suspicious

Garth

Do not have a clue that is all he told me. I just talked to Miele USA in NJ and the lady was super nice she said she is going to call the vac shop and speak with them. She said the same thing Garth - this sound unusual as the machine has a fuse that is only accessed by the technician and long before damage was done the fuse should have tripped.

BTW - They sell Miele at Bed Bath and Beyond here in Salt Lake. Entry level machines as well, but also have bags, filters etc.

Miele has used the independent vac shops in..

North America to build their reputation. Now that they are becoming well-known enough for Big Box Retailers to want them in their lineup, you can see the handwriting on the wall.  Like Sharp, and Panasonic, and Oreck, Miele will throw the independent vac shops under the bus, too.  Probably Sears will be the one to have the full line.

Let me just say in a few words ( I could write a novel on how the suppliers are retarted but I won't ) a lot of times things at the suppliers are on back order and I have waited up to 6 months for stuff before and it pisses me as well as customers off. I use VCP and am pretty sure they hire anyone who doesn't know their butt from a hole in the ground when it comes to vacuums, Chad,Jason,Rick either one of you want to back me here lol. I just ordered some Lux wands for a member here on vacland and got jerked around about how the wands were in stock then when I get my order it's nothing that I ordered and when I called they said oops those wands weren't in stock after all ( after I asked them to double check ) but yet I got a bunch of other crap I didn't friggin order that I'll have to keep and pay for because it cost to damn much to send it back. sorry I went off on a gripe-fest after all. So I would imagine all vac shops in the world these days are dealing with the lack of customer service. I am so close to changing my number and selling all my left over inventory to you guys and enjoy collecting only. One thing is for sure, my shop no longer deals with Miele, Simplicity, Eureka, Electrolux, Fairfax, Hoover, Royal, or Dyson, These seem to always be the brands I have problems with getting parts. Kirby seems to be the easiest. I'm curious to hear from other vac shops on here to see if you guys are having any problems.

Ok I know I am in SA, My biggest problem machines are Miele, Bosh , siemens, shark Electrolux ( eureka) always out of stock) Rainbow tries to make as much profit of every spare they sell you here, Kirby always has stock and considering what the machines cost of the machines new

I like to keep every part for vacuums we sell in stock, If it is not available at the time of launch I strip a new unit. I absolutly hate telling customers they will have to wait for stock, with a passion.

YOu guys in the states are lucky, you have a number of large part suppliers to choose from, In sa its  the agents only .
