I never say things like "awesome", by the way, but I think this deserves it. Today I got the Electrolux B21 shampooer/polisher that originally belonged to my maternal grandparents.
A little history:
In 1972 (my birth year) or 1973, my grandparents retired in St. John's. These are the same grandparents who had the two white and red 86s that I loved to play with when I was a kid. Every time I'd go over there, I'd break them out and play with them. In fact, these were definitely the first Electroluxes I ever saw, so I have a real soft spot for them. BTW, I now have two 86s myself, with all the attachments, so you could say my childhood still lives on.
One of these 86s (the main house vacuum) had a green electric hose, telescopic wand, and PN IV, and I vaguely remember that both had original red hoses and attachments as well. The other one was used either in the basement or in the shed.
Anyway, in addition to the vacuums, they also had a green model B21 shampooer/polisher. My guess is that they bought it when they bought the new hose, wand, and PN for their 86, but, as they're long since passed on, I have no idea.
I must say, although I was always sort of struck by the appearance of the shampooer when I saw it sitting there, it never attracted my attention in the same way as the vacuums, and, over the years, I rarely saw it in use, and never recall using it myself.
Eventually, my grandparents passed on, my uncle and aunt moved into the house, and the shampooer/polisher still sat there. I almost completely forgot about it...
...until a few days ago.
I've been wanting to clean the living room carpet for quite some time now, and it struck me to ask my uncle and aunt about the "antique" shampooer/polisher. I called them, not even knowing if it was still in existence, and only intending to borrow it, and, glory be, they said it was still there, and that I could have it!
Anyway, enough story. Some pictures of this old family treasure follow.
