User Manual for Z500 series vacuum cleaner

Hi guys.i have recently seen a Electrolux model Z500 series vacuum cleaner for R25.just whant to see what it can do and evrything,is it a good vacuum cleaner?i have once seen one working and it didnt make a very loud noise at all.altough a vacuum cleaners sound is no noise to me its music to my ears.thank you guys!

Rare vacuum

Certainly not rare in the Uk, this model ran from 1971 until the mid 1990s with only a few modifications during its life. They are good cleaners and for R25 i would have said very well worth it. The only question is whether you can get the paper bags, filters and brushroll belts for it - even here in the UK they are getting rare, although they do crop up on ebay.

Were there many Electrolux cleaners sold in SA during this period? I do have a Hoover U4006 which would be of similar vintage - i am told Hoover shipped the parts out and assembled in SA to get around the trade sanctions in force at that time. Could it have been teh same with Electrolux?

I have the very same Hoover the U4006.My grandmother was a great electrolux fan,she had the z302 and z303.then she had the z170 and a few other cylinder electrolux cleaner.unfortunately i only have the z302 and z170 i would love to have the z303.but ive found that the z302 and 303 burn out easily because the casing enclosing the motor dont have enough ventilation.During my childhood hoover and electrolux was the best known brand.but when i was born my mother had a small red sunbeam vacuum cleaner its in a hectic state now but i still have it.i would like an electrolux xxx but i dont think it was ever imported to south africa.But you say its not to bad the z500 series?its a yellowish colour with what seems to be a variable power control on the deck.

I got a Z500 not too long ago (given up with it as the motor's toast), and the control on the top of the vac is for a scent thing or is for suction relief, I forgot which, rather than power control...

The vac is as basic as you can get, it's essentially a cylinder cleaner mounted on a nozzle, dirt goes up the channel, down into the bag, the air goes down through the motor, then back up through the vent...

Bags and belts are still available as generic parts, and Electrolux themselves sell original bags and belts (Type E28 and ZE093 respectively on electrolux.co.uk), as for other parts, I have no idea... :&#92

bought it

I eventually bought the vacuum cleaner.but the bearing on the underside near the fans are dry.it doesnt seem as if the fans can be seperated from the armature so that the bearing can be replaced.and the hose connection has 2 pins not the 3pin im used to.if someone can help me with a manual or know where i can download any help would be appreciated.Thanx

Very true, that seems to be a feature of older Electrolux vacuums, and is one of the reasons I gave up with my Z500 cos the bearings are bone dry, so the motor's noisy and rough, and my last Electrolux, a Slimline Z1185e, had a similar motor with the fan sealed onto the armature, the bearings weren't too bad in that, but still had a "dry" sound to them...
