Upright Electrolux models better than the cheap cleaners from Walmart

I watched some YouTube videos about the L-shaped Electrolux upright models and in the comments that I've posted on these videos, I asked the submitters if they think that these Electrolux's are better than the cheap TTI vacuum cleaners from Walmart and those who answered my question told me that yes, they're better than the Walmart cleaners.

Which of the participants of the Vacuumland forum believe that the cheap Bissell's, Eureka's, Hoover's and Dirt Devil's from Walmart would get outperformed by the Electrolux Discovery II?

The Discovery II will sweep circles around anything at Wally World. I'm born and bred Lux and I did those Wal-Mart specials for a living. Those luxs last forever. 5 years tops out of a big box store machine

Electrolux is a name to be recons whit when it comes to vacuum cleaners please wally world can go back to bed when it comes to vacuum cleaners Electrolux'es are so much better i own 3 lux products and i love them so much not going back Lux and Compact is all ill use for ever .

The actual question is "do you think the 'wally world' machines will OUTPERFORM a Discovery II"?

The Discovery II is a 30 year old vacuum cleaner.

The Hoover for $179 at Wal-Mart will certainly dig more dirt than the Discovery II.
There are a number of vacuums at big box stores that will "outperform" the Lux.

Your question didn't take into account how long those machines will last, as compared to the Lux.

The Lux suffers some major design flows with concern to the leaking dust bag, the dust sitting directly on top of the motor's suction intake, and the lack of a sealed filtration system. The big box store machines also suffer from design flaws.

The Lux Discovery II, while not being a very 'deep' cleaning upright, was built to take the abuse that the uncaring hands of ever-changing maids (cleaning ladies) as well as clueless owners can heap upon it. Similar to how Sebo and Winsor are built.

I've managed to fit my Epic 3500 (discovery 2 style) with pre and post motor filters, and I run it with the Paper bags. Filters pretty well and with its generic replacement brushroll it's a fantastic sweeper. Its the vacuum I usually take to Customer's houses until the Circuit Breaker for the power head burnt out. I replaced that last night and it's back in business.

I agree that Aerus (Electrolux) cleaners aren't known for their deep cleaning but rather for their sturdiness and reliability along with good customer service. With that said here's the best way to DEEP clean carpets without the need to rely on deep cleaning but cheaply constructed cleaners (note the first letter of each sentence):

Ditch the outside footwear.
Employ the vacuum cleaner at least 2-3 times per week--and soon after a mess is made.
Encapsulate or extract carpets periodically by shampooing; eradicate spots as soon as possible.
Protect soil-prone areas with rugs or runners that can be laundered, wetmopped, or shampooed as needed.

As for Electrolux upright dust leaks, the pre-filters and after-filters (as Andy mentioned) mitigate that.

Has anyone seen the EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND episode in which Ray purchases a Humm vacuum cleaner from a door-to-door salesperson when he sees the "wow" factor of the dirty tank water after vacuuming? When Ray and Debra find out that Marie had sent the vacuum cleaner salesperson to their house because she doesn't think it's clean enough, Debra tries to prove to Marie that everyone's house has a "wow" factor after vacuuming with the Humm. Instead, Marie is "wowed" after Debra vacuums in her and Frank's house and the water is clean afterward! The point is that Marie cleans and cares for her house so regularly that she doesn't need a Humm vacuum cleaner.

A carpet that is one to two years old will make that water dirty every time you vacuum unless it is steam cleaned, and then only not for a few times after.

I love ERL! Marie uses a 1953 Hoover model 63 in the season 5 episode "Mozart" and it is often seen in Frank and Marie's basement...

There was one episode where I saw a blue Hoover Windtunnel Self Propelled bagless in Marie and Frank's basement.

But other than that, I definitely believe that some cheap vacuums can dig carpets better than a Electrolux because I've used both machines before. I remember I saw a thread not long ago about a Hoover Windtunnel that does better on carpets than a Lindhaus and I believe that to be true. Both a Electrolux and a Lindhaus I find perform about the same on carpets.

But I also agree with what ronni said that the overall quality and the company is ALOT better than those other cheap companies. This was one question I asked earlier on another thread was which bags and filters are the best to use in these Lux uprights? I asked that because I don't want to use some bags and filters that leaks alot of dust and smells back into the air.

These are pretty good. I'm all the Lux uprights I've encountered, the only exhaust dust is from the Carbon Brushes. I put in some hepa filter material on the exhaust and it comes out clean. These bags are on E-Vacuumstore

Thanks, Andy. I do think Tom makes a valid point that Lux uprights are not sealed and will therefore always leak some dust particles through their edges and openings. Other brands that are sealed and have height adjusters for deeper cleaning would outperform Aerus (Electrolux) cleaners based on those criteria.

That being said, I still think that given the fact the overall style of the '80s-era tanks, uprights, centrals, shampooer/polishers, and accessories (along with the '50s-era combination tools) have changed so little is a demonstration of their quality, reliability, longevity and customer satisfaction. I also think that Aerus (Electrolux) products provide ample performance for those who use and maintain them properly, add filtration as you have, regularly vacuum, periodically shampoo, and do what they can to prevent ground-in dirt and soiling.

To Dysonman1, I meant to ask if the it where the Discovery II that outperforms the Walmart products, not the other way around. I was using a passive voice, but thank you anyway for the info on filtration.

To other people who posted comments on this thread, I'll put my previous comment in detail. One of the things that I like to do is to ask dumb questions to other people that can be answered with a big "DUH", even if I know the answer, just to see how other people would react to these questions, especially the ones that involve the comparition between expensive-but-great-quality products with the cheap, shoddy and disposable products like those we could see at Walmart. I wasn't serious about comparing the upright models from Electrolux and Aerus with the Walmart stuff. I only posted this thread as a joke.
