unusual items found when opening up vacuums

Here are two I have pics of. Both of these motors were working.
One, a nut wedged inside a Diamond Jubilee motor.
Two, a nail sticking out of the plastic motor guard on a Silverado.
These are what I discovered when I opened up the vacuums.
These were from complete running vacuums.
Makes you wonder how they got there.

It's amazing the punishment a good quality vacuum cleaner will take. I once found an AA battery lodged in the nozzle of a Kirby G6 that I bought at Goodwill. It had immobilized the brush roll and burned out the belt, which apparently prompted the previous owner to donate it. Their loss was my gain and an easy fix since I had belts on hand. The previous owner richly deserves the cheap, Chinese plastivac they doubtless bought to replace it.

Another fortuitous find was a little brass screw that was rattling around inside the emptor of my other Gsix. It was a perfect replacement for the little screw that holds that plastic cover down on the back of a G series Kirby's motor housing—the one that is often missing. That screw, which I think was originally on the back side of an electrical outlet or light switch to hold wires in place, is now installed on my G5. The maintenance people at the apartment where I used to live went through and swapped out all the switches and outlets, updating them from beige to white. The screw probably fell out of one and was subsequently sucked up by my Kirby for me to find later when I needed it.

I once took apart a Hoover Elite and when opening up the fan chamber, I discovered that there were so many small finishing nails embedded in the chamber itself it took on the appearance of a porcupine! They were also all over the fan itself! I had to cut and pull each one out to avoid being impaled from removing the fan.

But once when I was working for Kirby, someone brought in a Classic III that they said the motor was locked up. 


 


We initially thought that they may have sucked up something that just jammed the fan.  When our tech took it apart the motor, and motor housing was so packed full of cockroaches that the motor couldn't turn.  After about two hours of Luke saying words that would make a drunken sailor blush, the motor worked again.

I sincerely hope all the cockroaches were dead in that machine. That one would have been taken outside to be cleaned up no matter what the weather conditions were that day.

I found...

in a Hoover 27 from ebay,in the cloth bag full of dirt;was $101.00 dollars.It was wrapped with a rubber band in a neat roll.You could tell it had been there for quite sometime.It paid for the vacuum and the shipping.Now,I look in all the bags and filter when I purchase vacuums from ebay.

I have old vac on the way here now. I'll be sure to check those bags pinkie lol. That's a great find. And I would have ran out the door when I saw the roaches...dead or alive lol. This summer I was at a job site,was taking off kickplates on a counter in kitchen. When I hit with a hammer,they came out everywhere, I dropped my tools and booked it,natural response lol. Can u say shop vac? Lol

Brand new Oreck

I found an Oreck classic at Salvation Army and it was like new the bag had a little bit of dirt in it and it was really clean with hardly no scratches on it. It also had the manual with it. Bought it for $5. Took it home and the motor was jammed. Took it apart and found a 2 inch bold jammed in the fan housing. The fan was like new too. It was still white. Didn't have a spec of dust in it. Their loss my gain

I remember this local TV commercial back in the 80's also, for Numark roach spray.
"Girl, I was over to their house, and the roaches was everywhere.

I remember if once opened up a Compact to find a dead Bat. It was well last it's experation date...

I found a pink faceted stone set in a "gold" earring setting in a Kirby emptor. I have yet to have it tested to see if it is of value.

Bobby pins, push pins, paperclips and even those plastic tabs with a hole used to hang stuff for sale. The later was the cause of a very bad clog.

I found a full drill bit in a Kirby G4 I recieved and another one had a sock in the fan chamber and it messed up the fan and now it spins weird
