I have recently found an absolutely beautiful Hoover 800 -- it's in perfect condition, nearly mint, needing only a light cleanup. That's why I have been begging for a handle for one! More pix to come as I proceed with it, but meanwhile I have a question.

All the 800s I have found on-line have black triangular logo badges with silver lettering. This one has an orange bagge with a black outline around it -- the same badge as the 700, 725 and 750. However, it does have the 800 motor top with the radiating lines and built-in headlight.

This clearly is not a hodge-podge machine: The model and serial number are stamped into the bottom of the housing. Nor has the badge been replaced -- it's clearly the original badge, riveted to the housing.

So, I am wondering if maybe the very early 800s retained the orange badge??

Which leads me to a delightful dilemma -- I have a mint original 800 bag with the silver lettering and ornate scrollwork, and I also have an identical bag with orange scrollwork. I am not sure which model this bag belongs with -- could it also be that the first 800s had the bag with the orange lettering? I think the latter would look really nice with this 800 since the badge is orange, but if it absolutely would not be original, then I would hesitate.

I am most curious about that badge.

Final question: Did the 800 have the retractible cloth tab for the bag?

"Now ... discusss..."

Hi C-R,

the original 800's did have orange badges, as did original 450's. My 925 has what was an orange badge, although all the paint has come off.

The 800 did have a retractable bag strap, this went on as far as the pre-war Model 160's in the UK, I'm not sure about in the US, but I'm sure as far as the 150.

I'd love to see some more pictures of the 800, and the bags, especially the silver-lettered one, I've never seen one of those! I would suggest the silver one came, perhaps, from a 925. The orange would go with the 800.

Wow, thx for the prompt info! I am glad the orange-lettering bag will be appropriate for the 800 -- but if you check the photos on Jack Kopp's site, his 800 does have the bag with silver lettering. Will post more photos later---

Here is a pic...

..I saved from eBay a couple of years ago, a beautiful example of a Model 450, which shows the original orange badge and bag. Whoever had the winning bid on this machine is a lucky person!

Hi there Charles - seem to be speaking to you via the forum and email at the same time!

The bag on my 800, as with the bags on most of my cleaners, are not the factory-originals, but original-replacement, produced in large quantities while the machines were still being made as replacements when the originals wore out. Even these are pretty hard to find over here, so I'm very lucky to have so many of them! The lettering on them is white, not silver. The exception to this would my the bag on my 925, which has the same pattern in gold. It also has leather re-inforcement pads to protect the bottom of the bag from rubbing against the bag locking clamps, and is double-lined inside for extra durability.

By the way, it's 'Copp', not 'Kopp' - but don't worry, as far as mis-spelling my name goes, it's far from the worst! I've had Kopp, Capp, Carp, Coop, Cooper, and at the bank yesterday, Crop!

By the way...

...the 370/450/800/925 Model range is my favourite! I did post this picture recently in one of the other threads, but it's one of the threads which isn't working for some reason...

Thanks Mr Clop for the add'l information! :)

The 925 is my all-time favorite and I hope to find another someday. It was one that I sold in the desperation of facing the horror of having to move a couple of years ago - which ended up not happening. Oh well. Hopefully another one will come along sometime. It's such a beautiful machine.
