Ultimate Cleaning Teams

Does anyone else use a vintage Upright along with a vintage straight suction canister, to do the cleaning? If you do, please share some pictures of your Cleaning Team.

First up, one of my favorites:

Hoover 584 teamed up with my C-17 General Electric. The Hoover does a fine job on the rugs. The GE doesn't play around. Hit the switch pedal and the 2 huge turbine fans powered by that over-built General Electric motor move some serious airflow. And both machines are more than 50 years old.

Next up is another of my all-time favorites to use. The magnificent Hoover 62 teamed up with the Kenmore Horizon. This is one of the last machines made by Birtman for Sears before the hostile take-over. 1958. Quiet and extremely powerful. The dusting is done in no time. Of course, the Hoover beats the hell out of the rugs and removes all the grit. The Starks hand vac takes care of all the furniture.

Tom - What a good idea. I am sure a lot of us use a upright for carpets & canister for everything else. If I could make one suggestion though....why not make it a upright & powerteam canister instead of straight suction canister? Sure, they are good, but the one area a straight suction falls behind in is being able to clean under low surfaces effectively. A powerteam canister has the advantage there since it's powerhead can get under low furniture & still groom & clean as well as a upright.

I don't have any pictures, but I used to use my Simplicity Gusto or a Electrolux canister with my Royal Metal upright or my Kenmore Intuition upright for a cleaning team.

My cannister is c9 compact with a Wessell werk power nozzle. It loves golden lab hair it leaves non on brush roll.
Upright 880/d80 they clean and pull nap up in carpet.
3 hand vacs, riccar spruce, Iona dirt raider and recently acquired dirt devil deluxe edition. They clean stairs quickly.

While sometimes I switch it up, My cleaning team is usually my Eureka, 1205, and royal hand vac. The royal does a GREAT job on the cat tree.

I like to play mix-and-match...

I mainly switch off between my Kirby G5 (my Sentria and my two Gsixes get surprisingly little use) and my Electrolux Discovery II for upright duties and one of my Electrolux metal canisters, usually one of my 1205s or my Diamond J, although now that I've resurrected my Silverado, it will likely take up some of the duties as well. Like others have said, I grab one of my Royal Prince 501 handhelds for furniture and other small areas unless I already have one of the Luxes out, then I just snap on a SideKick. I've retrofitted my Discovery II with a Sidekick adapter so I'm not just limited to pairing a SideKick with a canister.

Though not vintage, my cleaning “dynamic duo” is my Miele C3 suction-only canister teamed up with my lightweight Hoover Platinum Bagged upright. They form the best, most comfortable and effective, set of vacuums I have ever owned!

Ultimate team

As a kid we had s Hoover 1020 convertible teamed with a ge swivel top.
I use a filter queen majestic with my Kirby legend or if I’m lazy my Hoover self propelled wind tunnel

I reply:
I am not familiar with the Compact Electra so I can't say for sure but you are correct in that the Sidekick uses a two-prong connection, the same one that would come from the wand for a Power Nozzle. If the contacts are the same width apart, it should work, especially if the connector coming from the Compact's hose is on a flexible cable. If it's a rigid connection like is on most Electrolux hose handles from the '70s to the '90s, everything would have to be at the same angle and offset so that both halves would meet correctly when the SideKick docks to the hose handle.

It could work if he uses a step up tube on the hose and adds a pig tail connector to the hose handle on the compact .But Electrolux usesa direct conenct on the canister vacuum hose comapct tristar usesa button lock i dont think the conenction would work.

And Antoine thanks for the answer. I have a step up tube and adaptor. They have a good deal on eBay and I wasn't sure if it would work.
I'm off to eBay to get it now thanks again.

I actually don't do any hose/canister cleaning in my hou

I wipe down or wash just about everything anyway and my uprights does edges really well. My stairs are not carpeted so that's a plus. I do use my Shop Vac to clean my condenser coils on my fridge and the inner workings of my dryer. Other than that, I have no real need for above-the-floor vacuuming.

Until recently, I've used my 6HP Shop Vac to clean the vehicles of my wife and I, that is until I found that my Kirby Avalir does an even better job getting the carpets and nooks/crannies clean in our vehicles than my 6HP Shop Vac does. The horsehair brush attachment is even better. I can vacuum the seats (they're leather) without marring or scratching.

The caveat with using the Kirby to clean our vehicles is that there will be the inevitable pebble or penny which seems to materialize out of nowhere, but I've made it a habit to look for these things before I use my Kirby in the cars.

On this extremely cool and rainy Sunday in June, I find myself once again in a very hairy situation. My two border Collie‘s have embedded hair in my rug for a week. To the rescue is my Eureka Imperial and the surprisingly quiet and powerful Lewyt 120 for the dusting.

Many times, these two are my go to vacuums for carpet and bare floor cleaning. My Electrolux XXX, and my Hoover Convertible U4127.....

I think if you asked most homeowners in North America in the 1960’s, they would say they had a Hoover or Eureka upright, paired with an Electrolux or Kenmore canister. Would be interesting to see statistics for this!

I used my c9 and my Wessell werk power nozzle. I used my Kirby heritage turbo spin brush on stairs and furniture. I used swivel head to clean off fans and dust TV's.
I cleaned entire 2000 square feet upstairs did 13 stairs and landing. I vacuumed another 1000 square feet down the stairs.
I used the HEPA bags. I tell no lie that I filled 2 bags 85% full. I'm not kidding at all I don't know as this was first whole house cleaning not using rainbow but c9 with Wessell werk. . We have a golden lab and two Siamese cats. Two full bags.the HEPA bags. I would have used my compact power nozzle but belt slipped and came off. I wasn't patient today.
Two full bags with fur and dirt holy cow. The cloth outer bag was clean as a whistle. Filter area clean too. My cyclonic head for compact got last use of old bristles as I installed new bristles afterwards. It could be our lab shed so much and it's been 10 days since last deep vacuuming. I had a ton with the rainbow but it's hard to gauge as I use a strainer bowel flush water down the toilet and empty basin into the garbage. I think I filled it 5 times and emptied it. I just don't get rainbow too full as I don't want build up all over area by basin debri comes in. I make sure basin and water seperator is clean each time I empty basin. It may take an extra minute but it's my OCD vacuum running effecient as possible.
They both clean extremely well. It's a e2 gold series 12 amp 2 speed rainbow. I did sell the black led rainbow that was a pretty machine but selling it had to be done.

I still use my Compact C9 and never had the belt slip off the brush roll like yours did thats odd ...
I also some time use my electrolux discovery II vacuum cleaner and shopvac for biggers mest .The Compact C9 is my daily driver to so bags tend to fill full usually last me a month or so.

If the belt come off your c9 power head maybe the brush roll bearing are done or wrong belt i replace the motor in mine and replace the brush roll never in the 6 years i had my c9 that the belt came off the roller odd are you sure you have the eight belt inserted?

Hey

I figured out why it slipped. The bracket on brush roll before where belt spins. The square/circular piece was slid away from the belt location making belt slip. I either was in a hurry last time fixing it or moving it it got bumped. It's back in place and runs like it should. I vacuumed my room and it works perfectly. All is well in compact land.
I used it to clean out a shark rocket my wife got for $5.
The shark had drywall dust galore. I also used horse hair brush to clean up Hoover.
It's functioning grezt and power nozzle is running good like it should.

Thats good glad to know your compact vacuum c8 /c9 is running well .
I added a longer hose on my Compact Electra Model C9 and its a electric hose ,so i can still use the power head whit the chevron brush- roll works amazing .Also not much suction loss to , im waiting on some cash to replace the blower port bracket that holds the exhaust diffuse cap
