UK Meet 2009

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

To our Brit botherhood of the Vacuum Cleaner!

Thanks guys for sharing your obviously awesome time in pictures for us to see. Mike, it was great to see that you
matched faces with on line names. So we could connect names,
people, faces and location in England.
Mike it was a really great effort on your part and I for one
would have loved to have been there too! None the less, thanks
again for sharing your effort and the event, as well as the pictures.

Funny...

...It must've been a great weekend for vacuums this bank holiday. I had James (who's user name has escaped me) and Jon (lavamat_jon on autowasher) up this weekend for a bit of a get together and some appliance fun. It's cool to see everyone meeting up and looks like you had a great weekend :)

Looks like you had a great time:

Hmmm- I love a challenge:

Re: The wall of Lux
We managed to get and example of every UK postwar Lux (branded as Lux I mean) from 1945 to 1985 or maybe a little bit longer. Another cream cake to the person who can list the missing models.

If its only from 45 to 85 that you want the major one that I see missing arethe models 48, 60, 310, 312, 96, and 355.

Of the older ones you could have used the 6, 10, 12, 15, 16, 18 and 24 as well

LOL - so have I missed any????

Doug

PS - Love the display. Its really nice to see them all together.

And Doug almost wins the cream cake

There is actually one more and that is the 117, similar to the little blue 116. But these models are very rare (as is the 30) as I guess most of the production was exported to earn foreign currency after WW2.

But I still think you deserve the cake, now you have to come to a future meet to be presented with it ......

LOL Al:

Carefull - I may take you up on that sometime. The 117 was one that I wasnt certain of as I've never even seen a picture of it (nor the 15 come to think of it).

It was fun figuring out which models you had pictured there then trying to think of the missing ones as you actually had a couple I havnt seen before in the line up.

Do you know anything about the early commercial Electroluxes? I have a model 33 but no parts for it and have a possibility of getting a 73. I'd like to find out what actually came with them.

vacs

Fred: lol, oh yes we have plenty of trees here, no deserts thankfully!!! actuall said person who made that comment is at the "Burning Man" in the desert so go figure!!!...LOl

Simon: and yes only just noticed the differences on the handle of the Z30, great that one of us is noticing stuff!! please contact me on my profile email, yours keeps bouncing back!!

Chris: any pics from your mini-meet??

Doug: how could you resist an offer like that and with cake!! we nearly got there, its the most lux`s we have had together in one go, so we`ll go for gold next time, actually Al I think we`ll do Goblin & vactric next time!!

Never mind the Goblins

We might just manage on the Vactrics but not so sure on the Goblins. HOWEVER, seeing that Lux 160 of Neil's just creeping into the picture above, do you have any more of this rarely spotted beauty? There are plenty of 170s around but this is the first 160 I have seen, and I need to go to Tara King (Avengers - Thingmyjig) to see a 152. We have the challenge next time of the Lux uprights too :) Never stops does it :)

As I write this I cannot believe it is a week since we all broke up from the meet. The time just flew by, always the sign of a good time
Al

Gee Mike - you make that hard to resist - Goblin and Electrolux are my favorites. The big problem would be the cost though - flights overseas arent cheap and my bank account isnt that healthy. Who knows though - keep me informed.

Oreck

I just noticed in the U.K. the XL-3600 we have here in the states as the "40th Anniversary Edition" over there is dubbed the "Champagne Edition." Oreck is now selling a 45th Anniversary Edition on QVC, in either red or green, but unfortunately nowhere on the cleaner does it say anything about an anniversary edition. I was equally disappointed when Hoover did the same thing with their centennial machines last year....

Hmmm, international meets

Doug
I am more than sure that you are not the only person on that position, which makes me think "Webcams". Our meetings so far have been pretty free format, beause there is always so much to discuss, but with a little thought we could possibly arrange "presentations" via web cam which would allow others from overseas to interact (although possibly with delays). There are others with more knowledge than I, but in these days of web conferencing it cant be that difficult
Al

'...disappointed when Hoover did the same thing with the

Ah - not in the UK! The farce is of course that Hoover US' 100th Anniversary has nothing to do with Hoover-Candy's, since they're two separate companies. Also, since Hoover didn't come to the UK until 1919, Hoover-Candy should be celebrating their 100th Anniversary in 2019!

I'm afraid this thread has gone on long enough!

I just can't let it get to 57 replies. No matter how fun and interesting it is!
