Hi Al:

Thanks - great to see some of the models I've only read about up till now. LOL - I see there is also a Bylock, Vactric and one of the many made by Siroma Engineering in the background.

Al, what a fantastic collection you have there. How long have you been collecting? Thanks so much for taking the time to share them with us.

Terry

Nice and vast collection there Al. Keep it up and you'll need to be building towers of power like Dave with those chrome racks.

Hi Alistair....

Hi Alistair.

Its Nice to see your pictures of your Goblin Housemaid.
I do like the Gobln Housemaid even tho I prefur the Goblin Commander which was the updated version of the Housemaid.

I would like both types of Housemaid at some point.

Where did you get yours from?

James:o)

Thanks for the kind words guys

They are much appreciated.

Terry, that is just a part of the collection - I did not even have any of my Seniors (your convertibles) out, and there was hardly an Electrolux to be seen. I have been "officially" collecting for about 9 years although the first in my collection (and incidentally one of the rarest - an Electrolux 116) was bought in 1993. Next up was the 119, rescued by a friend around 1998 or so. Most of my cleaners have come from ebay although some have also come from fellow collectors. I dare not attend "car boot sales" for I fear the house would be FULL of all sorts - its bad enough with the cleaners, mixers and a few other small appliances.

Pete, well I am not quite at the point of my namesake on your side of the pond, but it feels like it is not far off! When I get everything back in place I may share a photo.

James, the Housemaid was something of a bargain, I actually got two for £2.00 (say $3.00), and two brochures thrown in. As I said on my trident thread, sometimes ebay does work out. I passed the other one on several years ago I am afraid.

Tfal actifry

Al.. did I see a pic of a Tfal Actifry in your kitchen... what do you think of it... the gadgeteer in me would love one,, not the price though.

Hand on heart

Pete, I hardly ever use it. My sister has one which she uses a lot but as I am generally cooking just for me, it is not so good at small quantities. It will cook french fries in about a teaspoonfull of oil, but they are more like oven chips than "proper" fries. It is brilliant for sausages though. I bought mine on sale at a good reduction but I would really recommend anyone to wait until they find one at goodwill for $10 unless they have a large family or like a lot of french fries (and you can start with potatoes for these) and have to watch their fat intake.

Nice Vac Trick!! or should that be Vactric?

Al, I especially like your yellow Vactric Junior Upright. Whilst not quite on a par with machines such as the Hoover Junior 370 I don't think I've seen one quite so splendid before, though I do have a similar one somewhere with a maroon bag.

Presumably, the red machine next to it is the relatively rare Morphy Richards upright, which was recently revamped?

I have only seen one other

of these in real life - Mike has one as well. But this was the first time one has been seen in action - and I am delighted that it does actually work. The cleaner was produced from 1936 until 1958 apparently largely unaltered. There are more pictures and information on Paul Linell's excellent site (see link) - his is in better condition too.

That's all for tonight folks

Al

What is the

machine on the first picture posted, top shelf, all the way to the right?

It looks quite interesting. Any close-up's for us guys across the pond?

Thanks for the extra pictures of the Vactric Al!

I do have one like it in storage and also some of the similar National upright machines with the rectangular front covers.

Mine also worked when I tried them but one of them had a stiff front bearing, which I regreased after stripping the motor down.

National Utilities

Now that is interesting Stephen, I had known that Vactric 202/404 cylinder cleaners were badged under the National Utilities brand (and others), indeed I have one and they pop up with surprising regularity on ebay, but I have never seen an NU upright. This one is the only one I have seen on ebay in nine years.

And of course there is the successor model, which appears to owe something to the Hoover 638 that has not been seen either.

I also have..

a National upright with a blue bag and a round front cover and only ever saw one of those. I must dig it out sometime, hope it hasn't deteriorated too much in storage..
