It's so neat seeing all the vacs which are labelled Electrolux - many of them are familiar to us here in North America as Eurekas!

I see a mini upright that we knew as the Eureka Boss Lite which came in a corded and cordless version. There is also a canister that looks like a rebadged "Volta Gemini" which we knew as a Eureka Excalibur canister - it came with a Eureka World Vac power nozzle on our side of the sea.

That blue bagless Electrolux canister was sold in North America as a Eureka and a Kenmore at one point. On our side of the Atlantic, this innovative canister came with a Eureka Express power nozzle - one of Eureka's best!

I had the Dirt Devil upright shown in reply 9. Was a great cleaner with a metal sole plate, I let my B/F at the time borrow it, we then split up and he wouldn't give it back to me!!! Grrrr.

Thank you so much Jacob. It has brought back good memories; the Mondo E 1150, the Hoover Arrianne & Telios, the Goblin Aztec models and of course the dark black Boss cordless upright - I had a yellow Electrolux corded one - absolutely superb for quick clean ups and really wish I had hung onto it.

Henry's prices havent changed much over the last 11 years - you can get a henry now for £100 or so, so if anything, they have got cheaper - I bet a modern Henry wouldnt last as long now as an older Henry. Nice to see all those Dyson DC04's, this would have been just before the DC07 was launched later in 2001. The one that isnt there is the DC04 purple and magenta special edition, which was my favourite (shown in the pic - far left)
Between 1993 and 2001, dyson went from DC01 to DC05, between 2001 and 2012, they have gone from DC05 right up to DC44, thats quite an explosion of models aint it?

Personally I've noticed a fair few cleaning companies who have bought new Henry (and James) machines in the last few years and they all seem to be going strong - and that's from a commercial point of view where they're being used every day. Like the other thread of mains powered hand helds versus cordless, the same adage applies here - a lot of cleaning companies are turfing the old metal canister machines because they're far too heavy compared to the lighter current Henry vacs.

Sadly the brand that a lot of cleaning companies are avoiding are Karcher. Their Sebo based uprights don't tend to last long due to the cheaper plastics that Karcher lace into their appliances. As the owner of a Karcher tub vacuum, I can sympathise greatly - the plastics are shockingly thin and poorly made.

Of course, what came next in these catalogues, especially from Index were the awful Electrolux Contour based Dirt Devil, JMB, Swan and anything else ALBA PLC could re-label from their budget brand companies, upright vacs. You'd need muscles of steel to steer these ones.

I see as well they were still selling the Hoover Turbopower well into the 2001 range of Purepowers, a bargain at that price too, and also the very last of the old shape Hitachi powerhouse models, another steal at £58.
Those Dirt Devil handy zip handheld cleaners were great too, sold for years, before going hard bag. I used the handy zip when I used to go round valeting pub pool tables - every time though the belt spindles wore down and snapped off, so rendering the cleaner useless - always used to take them back to Argos under warranty and get new ones - didnt tell them I used the cleaner for commercial use though lol.
