Uh-HO!!! Two new vacuums in one week

I hope I can sneek them in when they get here. 


 


The first one is a Hoover SH40070 Multi Floor Canister w/power head.  I started a bid of $30 on Karensbarn ebay store and I got bumped a couple of times,  I decided that I would go $70, as can buy from Hoover Factory Outlet for $149.  I got it for $67.


 


The second one was a total surprise.   I was trolling along and saw a NIB Sirina with an actual auction, most are a buy now $899.  For giggles I bid $90 to start thinking that there would be a reserve.  There wasn't.  Over the course of three days I got bumped a few times.  It was up to $210 this morning, so I decided since the auction was ending at 4:30 today, and I was going shopping I just entered a Max bid of $275 and left.   Thinking there was no way I would get it as someone would snatch it up the last few minutes.  My phone beeped while I was in line at Wal-mart.  I won the auction for $270.   


 


I gots some splaining to do.

two vacuums in one week

I also got two new ones, two new backpack vacs, and they are awesome, the pro-team super coach and the perfect pb 1001. I'm thinking I may actually purchase shorter extension cords for them though, they both came with 50 feet cords, and I don't need anything that long, 20 feet max probably.

The two new additions arrived.

#1 The Hoover FS 40070 was the first to arrive on Tuesday 1/26.  It was used, but OMG--Wasn't able to use it until Thursday because it was so dirty I had to clean it first.


 


Packed, I mean packed with hair.  They must have been using it in a barber shop.  Filter plugged, dirt an inch thick on the motor filter.  Luckily it only allowed enough through the motor where the after filter was only darkened, but not clogged. 


 


Dawn dishwashing detergent and a few days drying.  I am not sure the cyclones are clean yet, but I did my best.  I couldn't figure out how to get the cyclones out to clean them so I just ran water through and then shook out as much as I could and let it sit.   After using the filter queen to blow out the hose and moved on to the power nozzle.


 


Took about 30 minutes cutting the hair from around the very small brush roll. Then Lysol wipes to clean the rest. 


 


First use:  It did a pretty good job.  This machine seems to be designed more for a smaller home or apartment as the cord is only 15ft.  After getting all the gunk out of it, you still get a new motor smell when it's running.   I am not a bagless fan, I may keep it around for the collection, or gift it when a family member needs a vac.  It may also be a good one for a loaner when someone wants to borrow a vac. Which I normally don't loan.

#2 New arrival

The NIB Sirena. 


Arrived yesterday, 1-28,  in a box the size of a small refrigerator.  The vacuum box and the power nozzle box were sent together. 


 


Did the unpacking, everything was new and unused as promised.  First impression was IT"S BIG.  Using a Rainbow as comparison, it is larger than the Rainbow in height.  The water basin is taller than that on a Rainbow and not as well balanced, as I found out while taking it out of the dolly when finished I dropped it and it promptly flipped upside down and I got to use the wet pick up feature.


 


Noise level is about up to par.  Not overly loud, but not an Areus Gardian Platinum quiet either.  Hose is short 6ft.  cord is short 20 ft or so.   Tools are all able to be stored on the dolly, which makes it very cluttered and clumsy IMO. 


 


The nozzle, my least favorite part of the machine.  I wish it had a direct connect wires, but can live with the plug type.  Difficult to adjust to the carpet.  I worked with it extensively and could not get it to adjust to my plush carpet without it bogging down.  The nozzle shut down several times and I had to wait a minute or so before it would start again.  I checked for lose wires, but didn't see any consistent area that would cause the stoppage.   The lower pile carpet in the kitchen (I know I didn't put it there).  It did much better and didn't seem to struggle as much. 


 


Clean up was different, but not a lot more so than a rainbow.  Dump the basin, dry it out, dry the underside of the motor.  Instructions say to clean the separator "every few usages"  I always clean and dry the separator on my Rainbow after each use and will do so with the Sirena. 


 


I am not a fan of the dolly, the way the machines sits in the dolly, or the basin.  The power nozzle was not impressive on first use.  I will use it more this weekend and form a better opinion.  Overall I like the machine, and got it for a good price.  


 


The owner's manual is very limited, and frankly of little help.  I attempted to register the purchase for the 10 year warranty, and could not for the life of me find a serial number for the machine or the  Power nozzle.  I found the model number on the name plate on the back and underneath the nozzle, but never found anything that appeared to be a serial number.


 


 


All in all a good machines for someone that would like a higher quality water filtration vac, but not spend the money on a Rainbow.  New motor smell.  This motor certainly smelled.  It was a cross between plastic and clean, not unpleasant, but made you hope it gets better.  Will try a fragrance next time.

This weekend the Sirena got a total work out.  Having had a macular hole and retina detachment 18 months ago I have been virtually blind for the last year and a half.  though I have never had good eyesight it was better than it's been since October of 2014.  Just had my third surgery on Tuesday the 26th and can finally see all that I have been missing.


 


Started with taking down the curtains and washing them.  While the curtains were down I used the Sirena to clean around the windows and above the doors, walls and baseboards.  I used a Rainbow scent in the water and that greatly diminished the "New" smell that was so strong with the first use.


 


I even cleaned the fireplace and vacuumed the bricks.  Don't worry, it's a gas fireplace, but I am surprised how dusty it gets. 


 


The power nozzle is still a pain,.  It is still shutting down.  Would still be nice if they had marked the settings as 1-2-3 or *-**-*** instead a of just a mark in three locations.   Discovered the mark furthest to the right is the highest setting.  It still struggled, and still shut down several times during use.


 


I noticed as I was making a transition from the dining room to the hall that I could detect an electrical smell.  I continued to clean into the bedrooms and it was really strong when I transitioned back to the kitchen. 


 


After I was finished, and cleaning up I noticed that one of the prongs on the power connection where the hose connects to the motor housing was black where it had been arching.   I am not sure if I didn't have it seated fully, or If this is the source of the shutting down, or ...I think I need to make a trip to Derby and have someone from service look at it.


 


All in all it did a very good job cleaning, there was a lot of dust to show for it, cause hey if you can't see it you don't have to clean it. 


 


Still trying to find a serial number.  If anyone has any ideas where they hid it, please let me know.


 


Spent the rest of the weekend cleaning the other things I could see before.  There is a price for not being Mr. Magoo any longer is there is a lot of cleaning to be done.  The shower for instance.  Ick.  and the glass shelves in the bathroom, they aren't frosted. 


 


Windows, I washed the one on the front door, as for the rest, that's what curtains are for.

The serial number for the canister is embossed in the plastic. Remove the basin and turn the machine upside down. The "NA" part of the serial number designated North American 120 voltage.

I did get an email from Sirena, they said to make sure the hose was firmly attached and if the shutting of continues to take it to service as there has been some defects.

Thanks to your help I was able to locate my serial numbers.


 


What puzzled me, was you mentioned the NA was for North America.  The machine and Power nozzle I have says EU and their serial numbers.


They are definitely 120V machines.  What other differences would there be?

I'm not sure what the difference is. My Sirena was given to me by Sirena when they first came out. Literally, the first week. That's why my serial number is very low. Haven't seen a new Sirena at a vac shop, so haven't had a chance to look at the serial numbers. It's possible Sirena changed their numbering system when they came out with the Wessel-Werks power nozzle (which cleans like a dream).

Today cleaning up in the basement.  Full disclosure--I am not a bagless fan, and will admit to it.  I am not trying to bash this machine or any brand I am only giving my opinion/review.


 


First thing I can say is:  I am glad I got it cheap, 1/2 of retail, and I think I overpaid.  It was clogged when I got it and spent two days cleaning it.   


 


I started with the basement carpeted stairs.  I like the smaller compact power nozzle,  It is only about 11 inches wide and very maneuverable.  With the direct connect wands you can move it to the handle and use it as a hand held.  The brush roll is fairly aggressive, but light weight so It doesn't dig in.  It is a Wind tunnel 3 design and has fair edge cleaning. 


 


Next vacuuming the low pile indoor/outdoor type carpet the nozzle did very well and was very easy to move around.  Then I put the wide bare floor all brush nozzle on and attempted to clean the floor in the mechanical room.  


 


A little something about the machine itself.  It has good suction.  The bagless bin has a really funny design.  The inlet comes into a cup that houses the screen, this initiates the cyclone I assume and then slings the stuff that is picked up through a hold about 1/2 inch wide and about and 1 1/2 inches long.  What this results in is the container fills up very quickly, it fails to sling the debris out away from the screen, the screen cloggs.  the secondary cyclones clog and suction goes to nil.  


 


This is what happened when I cleaned up the kitty litter the cat had slung out of his box,  within one pass the cyclone was clogged and I had to stop and clean out the machine.  


 


Like I said, I am glad I got it 1/2 price, and wished I had paid less.  Not wanting to bash, but Hoover would be so embarrassed to put their name on this machine. IMO
