Here we have another beautiful polished vintage Kirby for sale on eBay (and the seller is charging accordingly). It's listed as a Dual Sanitronic 80, but without a builder's plate, how will anyone ever know again for sure? Why do mom and pop vacuum shops rip off the builder's plate during the reconditioning? IMHO, that's even worse than when Kirby refurbishes a machine and returns it with a rebuilt plate. At least that way, you still know the original model and serial number. Wonder if the handle grip is matching green? Either way it becomes a frankenvacuum....

I think it's a D50 with D80 trim, and a wrong bag, which would explain why the ID plate has been ripped off, cos it'll be a D50 motor (look at the handle lock button, it's tan!!)...
 
Or it could be a Model 562, the first Sanitronic. The Sani-Emtor is from a 562. You can tell because it has the flare for the Sweet-Aire plug. It's just not drilled out. That flare was dropped after the 562. That would explain the handle lock button too, which I think is actually Coppertone in color. That was the color unique to the 562 only. We'll never know unless we can see the safety switch!
 
FrankenKirbys built up by vac shops--Machines made to sell to USERS rather than collectors-and use up Kirby parts from their junk box.The removal of the ID plate--BAD WORKMANSHIP on the vac shops part-or was it removed by a prior owner-or was the machine stolen?
 
You can always tell an authentic D50 by the headlight hood. It has the the little oval cut out with the Kirby logo. No other Kirby has this. So, it looks to be a D80,,except for the handle bale,,the D80 has the Classic style handle bale and handle grip.
 
Thats true on the D50-the lighted "kirby" logo on the top of the headlight hood-I have another D50 that was sent to Kirby by its owner for rebuid-and guess what the machine was returned with a HOLE broken in the replacement hood.-yes broke-the owner I bought the machine from said that was how he got it from them.-and it has that dreaded plastic fan.but the machine does work OK.It didn't have attachments-the owner said he lost them years ago.
 
While the D50 has the Kirby logo in the top of the headlamp assembly, if it has been rebuilt in the past and the headlamp hood replaced, the only replacement for that is one without the logo, so there are some D50s out there that have lost that iconic feature... :(

There was a seller on ebay here in the UK that was offering a D50, 120v of course, they vanished off ebay though (well, they still have their store, but they say they're not going to be around until February), if it was a D80, I'd have had it already, but, it was a D50, I'm not as excited by those... :)
