Right off the bat you morning readers might want to put the kettle on ;)

Well after 22 proud years of service she finally gave up :(

About a week or two ago i used her and she started up really slow gradually building up speed and smelt of electrical smell kind of thing. So i turned her off at first thinking i put the brush roll on too tight(as i greased the bearings in it) and just put her aside and never thought anything of it as i used my Turbopower 1000 to finish off the job.

So a few days ago I thought ill'd give her a really good do or more like a proper refurbishment. Completely strip the motor as I never really gave her a good do.

And...Sigh..I then realized how bad she is..

Before I even touched the motor as i turned the brush roll..I heard this like grindy clicky noise.. so i was like Hmm ok..Maybe it could just be a bad brush roll bearing. Took out the brush roll and that sounded fine so turned the motor shaft still the clicky grindy noise.

Onto the actual motor now. So took out the motor etc etc started stripping down that. Took out the carbon brushes. Oh My God! Is about as well as i can explain it.
Just look at the picture....

So I proceeded to take apart the motor..Sigh and the armature looked about Fu**ed
:( The commutator didn't look good just the whole armature its self looked like it would burn out any minute. Just over all Fu**ed is about the only word that can precisely describe it. When i took off the fan behind it was plaster dust. The armature bearing was fine but the bearing behind the fan is shot. Thats the one making the clicky grindy noise.

Yes i know its easy enough to replace but with the armature looking like its about to burn out its pointless. I thought I would never be a bit upset about a vacuum but i am, as this old' gal is the one that started off the collection.
The link will take you to see some more pictures of the strip down.

Oh well *sigh* You win some you lose some....

Surely if it's a motor fault you should still be able to find another in a scrap Turbopower? The Junior model of this was sold well into the decade beginning 2000 so I'd expect there to be plenty about still.

I guess you could wait till one pops up, or a Turbopower Junior and leave this beauty in the attic till then :D
What a coincidence... Today my Dyson DC14 Origin blew up, it's around 10 years old and had a hard life

Awesome. I made a vid on my Youtube channel today of my DC14 burning out and making grumbly noises. I will replace the motor though, it is very powerful and I had intentionally purchased it for spares :o I ended up scrapping the original machine lol

Ironically the same thing happened to my 1994 Turbopower 1000 U2812 a couple of years ago and I was in the same situation of being almost certain I would not find a replacement motor, but with a bit of eBay searching I found an early Turbopower 2 with a working 800W motor and a broken chassis/body. After a couple of messages back and forth with the seller he agreed to remove the motor and send it to me for an agreed price.

Less than a week later my Turbopower 1000 was back up and running, albeit with a slightly "downgraded" motor!!

Never give up hope.

@jmurray01

lol after a bit of thinking i might either total up how much all the parts would be to buy and see if i could find a motor. So if the motor is cheaper ill get that or if the parts are cheaper ill get those.

Its just such a shame for this machine to end like this.

Sad to hear of your machines death, I am sure it will be reborn! It looks a bit like my Hoover Legacy Demminsion but I am sure not really under the covers. It is an easy machine to live with and works well, still.
