TWO ON EBAY RIGHT NOW!!!!!!

Help Support VacuumLand:

Thank you for the kind words! I actually got kind of nervous afterwards cause I didnt want others who were trying to get it to feel I had spread the word about it, these are a much more uncommon vac. To see two at once on eBay of all places was wild!!!

Is this a rare vacuum?

I didn’t think this was rare, but maybe so. I cleaned for a guy for a year or two who had one of these. I got real tired of how heavy it was and the brush roll motor was kinda weak, it would stop easily and didn’t spin very fast on the carpet. It was pretty quiet though. I finally decided to bring my Electrolux Silverado instead. He also ended up with a Kirby as his Mother passed away and he took her Kirby and brought it to her house. I don’t remember using the Kirby more than a few times as I also felt it was hard to push and exhausted me as his whole house was carpet so I stuck with using my Silverado.

I can’t remember if the MVP had a cordwinder on his.

Hey Jon!!!

These are without a doubt one of Dirt Devil's most illusive machines. These only ever appear once in a blue moon on sites like eBay. Other sites like Craigslist have them much more often. Many people including myself have been after these for quite some time. Though I kind of lost interest in it afte awhile. Looking much more now for a decent 90's Broom vac. These were probably Dirt Devil's best cleaning upright of all of them going by things I have heard. The one the guy had probably had seen better days. I think they started selling them in 96 and 97 and probably ended aroun 99 or 00. Does anyone here know what year they stopped selling them? I want to say 1999 but IDK.

I had no idea they were collectible. We see old Dirt Devils in the Kirby dealer's trade-in piles all the time. I'm going to have to stop throwing them away and start selling them on eBay. Who knew? I remember them when they were new, I remember fixing them, and then I remember people trading in the broken ones (handle release lever problems). We don't rebuild Dirt Devils for sale, so I would have never thought people would actually pay good money for them. Thanks for letting me know they are valuable.

Hey Dysonman1

No prob! The 90s Dirt Devils are getting harder to find! Seeing them go up is a real treat, especially an Ultra MVP which is an all around good cleaner.

Those Dirt Devils!

For the money, I thought the first models, dirt devil and deluxe were really a good buy. They were. I got a brand new Ultra MVP freshly thrown away because the handle release snapped, and the owners were moving, didn't want to deal with it. So I retrieve it and it's great. I didn't replace the handle release in due time and now can't get it. It is a heavy vacuum cleaner to lean against the wall! Thanks for posting this. I hope anyone who buys will check to see if the handle release is working.

I actually have 2 of these, one came from a very good collector friend which it isn’t in the best of shape but it’s restorable, the other is damn near new. The “new” one was bought be a lady who used it for about a week to clean her deceased fathers house. I paid about $50 for it and find it to be a fantastic vacuum cleaner. As a matter of fact these machines are pretty comparable to a Kirby at the base due to the 2” diameter hose and the airflow being measured at around 125 CFM (someone on here “tested” it). The motor for the nozzle is a typical PN motor by GS electric. Now someone mentioned the brushroll motor being weak... these are by no means a weak PN motor at all, the reason for the brush constantly stopping is because of the belts continuously stretching due to the powerful suction of the vacuum. Well, that and dirt devil belts aren’t known for being the most durable belts. In my experience they actually tend to stretch quicker than many others. There are a few flaws on these machines, Brittle plastic being one thing and the other being the handle release. There is also a diverter flap “under the hood” so when the handle is raised it diverts the suction to the hose and if it has debris lodged in it, it can break with the force of putting the handle up. Another weakness is hose suction, as powerful as the machine is at the base there are a lot of areas that leak on it and also the wire reinforced stretch hose cuts a lot off as well. Otherwise it is a phenomenal vacuum and if it weren’t so brittle and a few slight changes were made, it would be a very successful cleaner.

Could've sworn I saw this in an office YEARS ago with what was either a Hoover Futura or the similar looking Dimension II. Though it could've also been the EXTREMELY rare Swivel Glide Vision in bright red, which I always thought had a similar handle shape to the Ultra MVP. This was back in like 2001.

Yeah a lot of people collect Dirt Devil and within the past 5+ years people have been wanting them more and more. I used to have the base model MVP but the bag door was broken and would not latch. I have a bunch of Dirt Devil's hand vacs but none of their uprights. I just have a rare teal variant of one of their bagless vacs.

No vacuum should ever be thrown away. My neighbor just threw out a Bissell Cleanview that is a $100 vacuum. The brushroll looked like a shag carpet and the belt snapped, that was all that was wrong with it.

I have quite a few dirt devil machines. I’ll gather them tomorrow and snap a pic of what I have, I’ll even throw the royals in a pic too considering that dirt devil was made by Royal. I’m sure there are a few members here that have quite a few dirt devils too. I do have a brand new used once at a mini meet, Vision featherlite that was a childhood machine from 2001 and also have a soft bag direct air “lite plus” that was a childhood machine as well. The soft spot for dirt devils lies with the soft bag elite style machines, although loud, they were powerful deep cleaners that actually performed very well and as flimsy feeling as they were, they were pretty durable.

$250?

For a 20 year old Dirt Devil. Hell Yes! I've got lots of 'devils' that we just tossed into the storage shed years ago. They are all laying on top of hoovers and other junk. I'll be sure to dig them out this weekend, take pics, and put them up on eBay. Who knew they were so valuable?

I think it's not unimportant to note the fact that these machines are so rare because they were not the best build quality out of the starting gate. Most were in the garbage dumps by the early 2000's but now they've taken on a cult following because of the rarity. I think the same can be said (to a lesser degree) for the Regina Housekeeper.
