Hey all! So, one of my friends and fellow collectors is moving out of state, and I'm kinda sad because he's pretty cool and I have gotten a fair number of my vacuums and lots of parts from him in the past. He is leaving tomorrow, so, I went over to his house yesterday afternoon and picked up a few things. I got 2 boxes full of all kinds of goodies, parts, and accessories, and 2 very neat old vacuums.
First off is a GORGEOUS Hoover Model 28 (gottahaveahoove, you're gonna love it). This machine is almost like-new, with an original shake-out bag (for a 300, anyways), a new double-row brush roll, and I think that the cord is new, as well. The motor runs smooth and quiet, and this cleaner beats the carpet just like a Hoover should. I did clean and oil the top bearing plate because it was a little noisy at first, but it runs great now. This is definitely one of my new favorites.
The second machine is somewhat of a rarity, a Kenmore "Automatic" upright. This vacuum is from the 1930's, and is just too dang awesome. It has the early style motor, the one that has that distinct start-up sound, a lot like the early Premier/Apex/GE uprights. It DOES have a brush roll, a single row metal style roller. I have discovered that a Dirt Devil Style 15 belt fits perfectly and spins the roller properly.
