My dad was given a Hoover Bagless upright for me by a friend. It hadn't been used too much or it was cared for very well. I cleaned it up and bought a new filter, brushroll, and belt from Evan. While I was there, I couldn't resist this NOS Miele S148 TOL HEPA, variable-speed universal upright and Miele's new 228 power nozzle. I already have a newer TOL S168 universal upright, but the price was so good I had to get another one. The one I just got is white, while the other is called "Polar Ice", which has a blue tint.

The Hoover cleaned up pretty nicely with a lot of detailing work. It won't get used much because that pleated filter clogs quickly, but it appear to clean the carpet pretty well. I this this vacuum is collection-worthy because it's Hoover's first attempt at a bagless upright. It's a direct-air system, basically an Elite, and it seems likes it applies quite a bit of power to the the carpet. I remember when these first arrived on the market about ten years ago.

Both very nice cleaners!

I just bought a brand new bagless WindTunnel that looks very much like your Hoover.  I bought a couple of filters for it on eBay, so I can switch always have a clean filter ready to go.

S147

The 147 is a great machine! I had one. It was my first Miele Universal Upright, but I gave it away to a friend when he was getting his first apartment. I wish I hadn't given him the hose set, too. I want one and can't find one now.

Fun!

Those Miele stick vacs look amazing! I'd love to try one someday. Does that one have their best brushroll? I bet it's fun to run through the house!

I worked on lots of those bagless Hoovers. They were bagless Elites. The filter setup is inefficient, but if properly maintained, they do a terrific job. There's still a surprising amount of them around considering their age!

I didn't have my S147 that long, bought it for £5 and smelled like it was used to clean out a cat litter tray!!! :S

The PN had the same brushroll that my S316's "Pet lover" turbo brush has, and to my mind it just didn't do a good job, it was too soft and the bristles are too far apart...

Once cleaned out and I fixed the BR bearings (plastic bearings I might add!!!), the vac ran well, but I just wasn't impressed by it, and the weight on the handle was a bit too much for me (I had pretty bad back problems at the time), and the type KK bags were too costly, still have the invoice for those somewhere, cost just shy of £10 for 5 & some filters, and they weren't big bags... :S

I didn't have any tools with it, what is in the pic was all I had, I don't think I got any profit on it (as in, the £5 I paid plus the cost of the bags & filters) when I ebayed it, but I'm sure it made someone happy... :)

Power nozzles and universal uprights

The S147, which is the black model pictured above, was packaged with the SEB217 power nozzle. The S148 was wired for a direct connect pn but didn't come with one. The pistachio green entry S143 would not accept a pn at all. Those three are discontinued, and now they make two models instead of three. Now the entry S163 is black and not equipped to accept a powernozzle. The TOL S168 is white with a blue tint (Polar Ice) and will take a pn but doesn't come with one. Any model that can take a pn can use any of them. I display mine on the 228 and the 236 because they stand up straight, whereas the 217 won't. I'll take a pic later.

I recall the S147 having a direct-connect setup, but to store it I had to lean it on things, as per the picture, not the best idea for a vac like that really...

Shame my Miele S316 isn't equipped for a PN, could have been interesting having it hooked up to my Eureka PN before it broke... :P

Next to each other.

The S148 with a 228 pn is on the left. On the right is the S168 on a new 236 pn. In vaccum-only mode, the 148 is 5.2 amps, whereas the 168 is 8.0. If I had a waterlift gauge, I'd compare them.
