Hello, I hope you all will forgive this bit of shameless promotion ... something I don't normally do, as I am not really in favor of publishing links to eBay auctions in the forums.

However, since these are my auctions, I'm making an exception, particularly since both these listings are for rather extraordinary things. I'm hoping you'll all have a look. Thanks!

First, here's a "Hoover Merchandising" binder from cir. 1967. (See link.)

I swear, eBay gets lamer by the minute!

I had no sooner listed these two items, spending several hours creating them, than eBay rejected them. Why? Because I listed cash, sent securely, as a payment alternative.

Well, the eBay Nazis have determined that cash is no longer an acceptable form of payment, so they cancelled my listing. Nice of them to mention this little detail on the "list item" form so as to save me a lot of time and hassle, eh.

Stay tuned for a relisting, assuming I jump through all the right hoops this time.

@#$@#$@#%#@$@ @#$%@#$ $%^@#$@#$@#%$@#%@# !!!

No more cash payments?!

This is the first time I've heard this - I wonder if it applies in the UK as well...

But how ridiculous of them to cancel the whole auction over it; couldn't they just have a standard email to send to people, informing them of the new rules and asking them to change their listings?

Here's what the emails from eBay stated, in pertinent pa

eBay Listing Removed: Accepted Payments (=LS &12362 JM112551673)
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Dear kittytwitty,

You recently listed the following auction-style listing:

180127521354 - VINTAGE "HOOVER MERCHANDISER" BINDER CONTENTS
180127532561 - ELECTROLUX GOLDEN JUBILEE BANK & CLEAN SWEEP PACKETS

-----------------------------------------------------------------

The listing was removed because it violated the eBay Accepted Payments policy. The violation occurred when you included the following information in your listing:

" You can send cash, but at your own risk. "

All fees related to this listing have been credited to your account. We also notified members who placed bids on the item that the listing has been canceled.

Safety and convenience are the most important aspects of eBay?s policy on payments. Our goal is to ensure safe online shopping and to encourage members to use online payment methods that are secure, easy to use, and reliable. They should also offer high levels of protection for both buyers and sellers.

Because cash payments do not offer the same level of protection and convenience as online payment methods, members are generally not permitted to accept cash as a payment method on eBay. Sellers are permitted to accept cash on delivery (COD) but only for in-person transactions. Personal checks, money orders, cashier's checks, certified checks, and bank-to-bank transfers are also permitted.

For more information on the eBay Accepted Payments policy, please visit:

Please note: violation of this or other eBay policies may result in forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings, limits on account privileges and account suspension.

Makes me go hmmmm...

Why put your own auction on the forum if you object to the announcement of others on the forum? If I remember, the complaint is that announcing auctions drives the prices up. So, this exception strikes me as irreconcilable hypocrisy.

(I don't mind anyone's auctions being mentioned on any forum, including these. It's not unethical, and I'm grateful for the help.)

50th Jubilee Electrolux

First, Charles~Richard, I regret your enraging difficulties dealing with eBay, that horror story and others have stopped my activities with them, I'm registered, but I'll only use them if I find the ONE item I have been looking for for the last 10 years. I think I better run down to the Mustard Seed Thrift store and buy the 50th Jubilee Elux w/the power head and duct taped plastic wand. I think I could find parts somewhere. They only want $10.00. Since I love the design anyway, it would be a great first one for the collection. Anything I have tried to alert my famous hi-fi company group about on eBay has been totally ignored. As has virtually everything else I posted. Sorry for straying, but at least I can empathise about putting a lot of effort into something only to see it get flushed into the internut toilet. Keep on trucking!

Cash On EBay

Coming from the banking world, E-Bay not excepting cash does not surprise me. There are Federal Laws in place the prohibit certain currency transactions. And since 9/11 even more so. We have to report cash amounts on various items through the bank or credit union depending on dollar amounts as well as the type of transaction. This is to help with drug trafficing and other issues that face our country.

I know it seems to be an inconvenience, but overall it does protect us as individuals. Looking forward to seeing the items you have listed. It is to bad that E-Bay does not tell you this until after you have posted.

Good Luck!

Morgan

That's me, an "Irreconcilable Hypocrite."

Sorry you feel that way Patrick, but what can I say. "Guilty as charged."

Actually, my thinking was really more along the lines that these two things I have listed are, I believe, fairly rare and I wanted as many people as possible to see them for curiosity's sake more than anything else. Since I am the seller, it's not quite the same thing as just running in and posting every eBay auction for a vintage vacuum cleaner that I come across.

Furthermore, the main reason I object to people posting currently-running eBay auctions that they have no connection with (e.g., are not the sellers) is because more times than not, the links that certain people tend to post are only for items that they are not personally interested in. Otherwise, believe me, they wouldn't be broadcasting the auctions, but would try to keep them quiet for the very reason you noted --- to keep the bidding down as much as possible.

Kinda sad, really, that some people immediately assume & infer the worst about other people ... and then unkindly hurl accusations in public.

It's ON!

You mean like this:

Please see your post, with its order reversed.

"Kinda sad, really, that some people immediately assume & infer the worst about other people ... and then unkindly hurl accusations in public."

You picked the wrong person to engage in a war of logic.

WHAT'S on?

I was simply addressing your criticism of my having posted my eBay listings by accusing me of being a hypocrite.

At the same time I was explaining why, in general, I don't really care for people posting eBay listings that are not theirs.

If you want to make a war out of this, that's your choice. But you'll be fighting it alone. I'm not here to "make war" with anyone - "wars of logic" or otherwise. Especially not with someone who has an agenda and a long-standing ax to grind.

And if you need in your mind to believe I am a hypocrite, so be it. I've certainly been accused of being a lot worse, even in this most esteemed forum.

Not guilty

"Especially not with someone who has an agenda and a long-standing ax to grind."

Granted, some do, but not I. You and I never have met. I have no agenda against you. I have observed you to be irritatingly melodramatic on this forum, but that is my opinion, and I kept it to myself throughout the distasteful thread regarding your past ailment. To say that I have an agenda and a long-standing ax to grind, particularly against you, is unsubstantiable and constitutes an unkindly hurled accusation of the type to which you've recently objected.

We can drop this if you want. I don't have a problem with you, but I'm not accustomed to being argued with about my reasoning, and you better not accuse me of something unless you have evidence to support your position.

Good night. :)

I'm not at all trying to get in the middle of this... But, for the sake of keeping peace on the forum... if this is going to continue, would you guys mind taking it to private e-mail?

Thanks...
