TV Programmes that have been axed & you miss

This applies to the American shows too, there are quite a few American shows that I miss when they were taken off the air.

By axed, I mean taken off the air, however they might have shown repeats of them or something, but this applies to 'old' versions of a show too, before it might have had a makeover etc. that changed it. This also applies to Childhood Shows too.

You can also give a reason why.

Here's my list of programmes that I miss:

Brookside - Possibly my favourite soap even though it was axed when I was 5, I still remember settling on the sofa with my brother & sister & watching the 20th Anniversary episodes & the Helicopter Crash. Amazing stuff.

Family Affairs - Loved that too, due to all the weird & wacky names the Characters used to be called.

The Fimbles - I'm sure at one point I had EVERY Video for them. Video now sounds so old but yes I loved watching the Fimbles, they were my favourite childhood TV show.

Blues Clues - Like the Fimbles I had all of the Stuff they bought out. I loved watching this programme, the fact that this man had nothing better to do than go round his house trying to search for something using his notepad & crayon drawing. I thought it was fascinating.

My Parents are Aliens - Probably the one I watched the most after 2004, brilliant programme, & very True to life almost. Tony Gardner was excellent in it though.

I used to stay up specially to watch Genie in the House when Nick moved it to a Midnight Slot, & I forgot all of those shows that you put down. Like you I also spotted the Vacuums. I think that's what got me into MPAA, the fact my Sister told me they had a Henry, I was glued!

Also, Night and Day, that ITV soap based around the 16 year old girl I did watch too. There was an episode I think where they stopped time. Very mystical but it was so cool.

I miss Harry's Law and the BBc comedy Thin Blue Line

Most of the programs I have enjoyed were short series rather than long-running shows. I miss a good deal of the series, particularity the situation comedies.

There was a US sitcom that only ran for a few seasons called "Less Than Perfect", which was set in an office. That was a great show. I also miss "Cybil" - that was another good US sitcom.

In terms of British series, there aren't many I can think of that aren't available on DVD. The beauty of British TV is that series tend to be ended before they get dull and stale.

Less Than Perfect....

....Was a GREAT show. I sometimes wonder what happened to its star, Sara Rue.

The British show I wished could have gone on forever was "The Vicar of Dibley." Dawn French is a genius!

I'm also very, very partial to "Waiting for God," with Graham Crowden and Solihull's finest, Stephanie Cole. I have a story about that show:

Some years ago, my late partner and I were watching a "Waiting for God" episode where Diana Trent was being a particularly delightful nuisance to everyone who tried to oppose her. As Diana annihilated her nemesis, Harvey Bains, with one hysterically funny wisecrack after another, I said to my partner, "God, I hope I'm like that when I get old!"

To which my nearest and dearest said: "Hell, you're like that NOW."

"Miranda" is returning for a fourth season in 2015 (Miranda Hart is on tour for most of 2014).

Citizen Khan is NOT funny.

Brookside

I had the misfortune of wandering into Brookside Close (figuratively speaking) during the middle part of the 1990's, when the woman I was courting decided we were to spend our weekends together. Her late Saturday afternoons were spent watching the omnibus edition of said soap opera. I tolerated the program up until a new family moved in and started a very grubby storyline about a boy and his older sister who were in a sexual relationship. After that, I refused to view. The thing about the soaps is that few people realise that such misery and suffering can be found in the real world, and one does not need to look that far.

I spent over 20 years residing in a flat above my shop, a shop in a huge row which fronted a busy road with all sorts of comings and goings. In all that time I never met a quarter of the amount of families who had such unfortunate circumstances as those who lived in Brookside Close. Everyone who moved into that Cul-de-Sac either brought their emotional baggage on a removal lorry, or else was soon in the middle of someone else's. Were it me, I would have taken my own life had I been told that was where I was being rehoused.

I can only say for 2001-2003, which at the time I thought it was really good, all of the drama & action but that was 5 year old me.

When it first began, Brookside was very up-to-date and brought a good deal of issues to public attention. I happened to see a few episodes sporadically, back in the day. However, the constant misery soon took hold.

vintagerepairer I have seen a few old episodes of Brookside & at the time it seemed to be tackling issues that were occuring at the time (eg unemployment). But I only ever remember the last two years but I loved watching it then until they changed the time slot to half past midnight for the last four episodes. I think when they changed the slots from primetime to the omnibus edition at 16:30 I used to watch it then too, apparently it was the only thing that kept me in front of the TV whilst mum was baking or cleaning.

Old shows

Most of the old T.V. shows which I loved and miss went off-air because their casts retired/died. Looking forward to the odd Christmas repeat.
