This is a shot of our 'changeable' section of the Vacuum Cleaner Museum in St. James, Missouri. I have decided that since Old Navy, Target, etc. are all doing Turquoise as the new Spring 2013 color, I should do the same. These are all late 1950's and 1960's vacuum cleaners - in Turquoise. They sure do get a lot of comments from visitors to the Museum.

That's a Water-Matic, made in Canada in the mid 1960's.

From left: Electrolux model CA (Commercial Automatic), General Electric Roll Easy, Electrolux model G, Air-Way model 88 Mark II with RugMasteR, Electrolux B8 (matches the model G), Water-Matic. In front row: Compact Electra model C-6, Hoover model 69, Kenmore "World's Fair" model (1958), Eureka electric broom.

I =DO= love me some turquoise!! What a wonderful photo of a wonderful set of vacuum cleaners! :)

I have quite a few turquoise machines including a Hoover Constellation, several Johnson-Wax floor polishers, a Compact 25th anniversary model, Electrolux Model G (of course!), a Kenmore "upright tank on a cart," an Air-Way 88 and an 88 Mark II (white and turquoise), and probably a few others stuck away.

Here's my Hoover Constellation:

Turquoise has got to be my favorite out of all the bright colors that were popular in the 1950's. Eccellent picture.

<span style="font-family: arial black,avant garde;">Hi, Tom,</span>

<span style="font-family: arial black,avant garde; color: #ff0000;"> </span>

<span style="font-family: arial black,avant garde;">Your post is nothing short of (turquoise-colored) cool!  Someday I would like to own a turquoise Electrolux Model G, and your post has made me wish that that day would come very soon.  It's interesting to note that turquoise is back in fashion--at least to some degree.  I heard that my grandma's new 1955 kitchen was decorated in turquoise and pink (supposedly including </span><span style="font-family: arial black,avant garde;">corresponding </span><span style="font-family: arial black,avant garde;">colored appliances).  To my knowledge, turquoise has not been in vogue since the mid-1960s when coppertone brown, avocado green, and harvest gold took center stage.  </span>

<span style="font-family: arial black,avant garde;"> </span>

<span style="font-family: arial black,avant garde;">Thanks for posting.</span>

Beautiful display!

However, there are not enough turquoise Eurekas in there!!!! The Eureka Williams line up in the 1960's seemed to be only turquoise.......:-)

Really nice collection and display of turquoise vacuums-and they are in beautiful condition!!Love them all!Now if only Kirby would make a turquoise model and NSS make a turquoise M1 with a turquoise bag and hose!

'lots of comments"

Here's another-Looks Great!-(But if you add more,remember the difference in turquoise and blue)-I noted today that I would like to see Palm Springs and should now add that I would only go if I could stop halfway and see THE museum.-Next display idea(free,if I get credit.haha)Manekins in flower fashions pushing flower bag Hoovers and pulling flower Sunbeams!

Sadly in the UK I wouldn't have anything with this colour. Whilst I think the colour is beautiful and classic, it reminds me too strongly of the horrible electric trike "Invacar" (thus inferring "invalid") that wheelchair users were given to become mobile with in the late 1970s to 1980s. My grandpa had one and though it was fun, it was the ugliest form of transport he'd ever owned and sadly I was a bit embarrassed to be seen in it.

Life was slightly better when he bought a rubber band CVT Daf/Volvo 66 GL.

The photo shown here gives a shot of our Queen trying to look impressed with the ugly Turquoise Invacar - no wonder she drives a Range Rover!

Re: Jimmy's reply #14...

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; color: #00ffff; font-size: medium;"><span style="background-color: #ffffff;">
<p><span style="background-color: #0000ff;">Jimmy's color comment about turquoise and blue got me curious about the difference.  If you're wondering about it, too, check out the following 411 about the comparisons/contrasts of turquoise, aqua, and teal.</span>

<p>

</p>
</span></span></p>

<span style="background-color: #0000ff; font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; color: #00ffff; font-size: medium;">In addition, Wikipedia offers this trivia:  Cyan--also known as aqua--may be used as the name of any color in the range between blue and green.  It is one of the colors used in four-color printing and can be substantially different depending on ink brand and formulation (mixture of red, green, and blue).</span><span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; color: #00ffff; font-size: medium;">  </span>

<p><span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; color: #00ffff; font-size: medium;"> </span>

</p>
<span style="background-color: #0000ff; font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; color: #00ffff; font-size: medium;">Correspondingly, it seems to me that the cyan-colored Electrolux Model Gs may have been painted in at least two different shades in different years of production.  I would call the trim and attachment colors of said machines and the body color of the Electrolux Model 1205s as teal--based on the following information.   I'm not as familiar with other brands of cyan-colored appliances to know if they contained similar variances.  I wonder what the companies' original color names were--or if they all just used the term turquoise?  Regardless, any blue-green hue is cool and classic!</span>

<span style="background-color: #ffffff; font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; color: #00ffff; font-size: medium;"> </span>

<p style="text-align: center;">
<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; color: #00ffff; font-size: medium;"> </span></p>
</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: #0000ff; font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; color: #00ffff; font-size: medium;">AQUA
The word itself comes from the Greek word kýanos (which we now call cyan), meaning blue. Aqua is considered a secondary color about half way between blue and green on the color wheel.</span></p>

</span>

<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; color: #00ffff; font-size: medium;"><span style="background-color: #0000ff;">
<span style="background-color: #ffffff;"><span style="background-color: #0000ff;">The word 'turquoise' is French and was first used to describe the gemstone commercialized by the Turkish (and now more identified with the American southwest). On the color wheel it is a green with blue tone and ranges from soft, pale colors to vibrant, intense shades.</span></span>

<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: #0000ff; font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; color: #00ffff; font-size: medium;">TEAL</span></p>
<div class="separator" style="text-align: center; clear: both;"><span style="background-color: #0000ff; font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; color: #00ffff; font-size: medium;">Teal is a low saturation color that is as often called teal-blue as it is teal-green. It is a moniker given by the English to a shade that replicates the color surrounding the eyes of a 'Teal Duck.' It incorporates black or gray pigment into the combination of blue and green to create a rich, warm and inviting color profile.</span></div>

This is the Vacuum I bought about a year ago. Identical to the Signature that my mother owned. Except with Firestone on it!
