VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

When you tell us you have been "approached by a collector", to "help" value these cleaners - this sets alarm bells ringing. There are some greedy and selfish members here that get a kick out of flashing their wealth in front of us, and do us out of the chance to buy vacuums. This has happened to me before on ebay, when V6JME who goes by the seller ID "sealsseals" on ebay, messaged a seller to end the auction early so he could use his wealth to buy the vac I wanted, outside the auction, then came on boasting about it later. I was absolutely fuming about it.

Why come on here, getting peoples hopes up, then come on later, saying " I have been instructed by Gareth<span style="text-decoration: underline;"> to cease listing as he has been approached<span style="font-size: large;"> by a collector</span></span> who has offered to survey and value the cleaners and<span style="font-size: large; text-decoration: underline;"> use the contacts he has</span>",  due to some collector who has now "appeared" on the scene. Surely you should have thought about this before coming on a vacuum enthusiasts website, telling us all about these wonderful cleaners. People here are very disappointed by your actions.

I think the seller has jumped the gun, before "Gareth" has fully decided how he wanted to sell these vacs. What has most likely happened is that a collector, or dealer has seen these vacs and gone down there sniffing about trying to get the lot for himself, or people he knows. If these vacs owe Cee Jay a lot of money, then Gareth has had to take the option that yields the most money, rather than sell them to us on ebay.

Its a disappointment, but unfortunately that's the way the cookie crumbles.

I will stop posting on here if it is causing problems. My intention was not to boast. I was led here by you guys contacting me via eBay.

I was merely trying to give you the heads up. The collecter has offered his time free if charge to come and help us sort out what cleaners we have and mentioned tho option of a private sale. That is all. I have had a number of messages and offers and until it is decided what is happening I cannot consider them. Not replying is rude and I figured I'd just let everyone know what was happening.

That I have been on your side is ironic as I am now being criticised for updating. Would it have been better just to ignore everyone?

When. I first came on here I had no idea what the cleaners were worth. You will see from the Vax's I sold and other cleaner they were being sold as clearance at discount prices. I guess I got swept up in the excitement and apologise if I have upset anyone.

Hi newoldcleaners, my name is Robert and I am the owner and administrator of Vacuumland. Please feel free to continue posting links to your auctions, I would completely ignore any comment that is critical or any other nonsense. Getting the word out is very important. There are hundreds of people reading this that are not posting, but might very well be interesed in some of the things you are selling as well. If you have any issues you can email me privately.

Thank you again.

Cee Jay, you might aswell just post pics on VL and sell here because we are the most enthusiastic, we shown an interest first as vacuum fans, and also you wont get eBay fees! and First come first serve is most fair. It will benefit both you and us.

We really want these, it's like a teenager after the PS4 with the COD and Fifa 14.

I am a Dyson fan, I loved Dyson because my parents had a DC01 when I was born. I grew up with it. I love Dyson so much, even if they are crap (they are not) how would you feel if you were like me and you found a brand new discontinued Dyson that you have your heart set on and then discover that it's no longer for sale even though it's what you were interested in first before anybody?

Please sell here as it's totally fair. The hydrocarbons in the OLD vacuum are old. This means the vacuum will be more brittle in comparison to the vacuums today which everybody wants to buy (I.e Dyson DC41's and Vax Air 3's)
Please, even the other collectors will agree with me, right?

We are really grateful you are offering the vacuums to us. We are trusting you with respect :)
BEst wishes mate

Newold...

I think any potential offended parties are the type who are not going to bid anyway. I would not be at all concerned.

All the brand-new cleaners will have a resale value, if only from people who wish to buy a cleaner to use at their home. All of your stock has to be worth at least £40 each as a useable item.

I hope you do well from your auctions.

we just want to know what's happening With the vacuum cleaner We're sorry if we've make you feel Like You're causing problems But you not I think everyone Thinks you're selling them off eBay we just want to know when You're putting the other vacuum cleaners on eBay Like the vacuum You showed in the pictures So please don't stop Posting on here

Benny, thank you for your comment "I think any potential offended parties are the type who are not going to bid anyway.", its has been duly noted and acted upon.

To clarify, I have not sold one vacuum cleaner off eBay. Not so much as a dust bag. Has anyone purchased any machines off eBay? I'm sure someone in here would know about it!
I've promised I won't end them and I won't.

We split them up so there's a few coming on each day in the evening so they finish over Easter bank hols. I'll post once they go live as not sure I can post link for scheduled.

Most of the better cleaners I listed are on (though I could be wrong).

And thank you Robert. I didn't want to cause problems on a site which was very positive and fun when I came on. I love the passion you guys have and have started to feel an affection towards the cleaners myself!

Then our magic powers here are working on you :-).

Just as a heads up newoldcleaners, when you post a link or links to ebay auctions please don't convert them to the small bity-condensed links, use the full link from the browser. The reason I say that is because the system will automatically pick up the link and place it into the UK auction highlight box in our Super Market forum. You will get more views of your auctions that way. I converted the one you posted above.

Thanks again.

They're not closed-they're both still open. Our London Branch opened in 1952 and our Leighton Buzzard branch in 1996.

We both work full time and have a young family. My listing and research is done in the evening-often later on. That's why it's a nightmare as it's taking up my evenings and I don't have bulk of anything. Everything is in 1's and 2's-3 max with the exception of Vax's which I am overflowing with-especially refurb models.

I have listed the better DC01-I have another ex display which is missing it's box and tools. I can't say I find it sexy though ;-) If it was a pair of shoes perhaps....

I might have to pop in to your leighton buzzard shop the next time we go to peterborough!

Good to know your still going! Hopefully the money you will make from selling this stuff will come in handy. Do you repair any older vacuums still or do you find its all modern plastic stuff?

If you find any REALLY old parts as well we would love to hear about it!

WELL...WELL...WELL...

Ladies, I'm going to wade in with my 10p worth.....

I've been watching this unfold with great interest.

I'll point out now that personally I've not really got any interest in any of these machines. I don't really 'collect' as such any more, although I DO appreciate a quality vacuum cleaner. Buying one of these myself seems a bit pointless as for me all it would do is sit in a box collecting dust. Any 'old' machines I do buy tend to be less than £20 and are bought with the intention of selling them on. And I've already got far too many old cleaners (3) hidden about the house that I need to get rid of!

So, firstly some 'advice' for the seller -
I noticed you said you had a collector offering to go over the machines with you. Personally I see this as a bit pointless. What is junk to one man is another mans gold. List it all on ebay and let the masses decide if its anything special.
For example you have an Electrolux contour style machine on e-bay. To me this machine is of no interest, yet somebody who collects Electrolux such as Turbo500 would probably snap your arm off.
I think your best bet is to simply list it all on e-bay, as you have been doing.
Don't be lured into private sales. I'd happily give you £200 for the boxed DC01, but that's only because I know I could probably sell it straight on for a profit. An auction lets the item sell for its true value.
Trust me, your ebay account is going to be getting a HUGE amount of interest, and anything you do list WILL be spotted by collectors.

Also, try not to get sucked into all the hype on here. While you do have some special items to sell, some of the people on here still at school and will be relying on parents to purchase on their behalf. I know when I was a kid there was no way my mum would of given me the money most of these machines will end up selling for.

A few words for the collectors -

Firstly, these items are FOR SALE. The owner of them isn't going to simply sell them to you because 'you've always wanted one'. It isn't first come first served, and money talks. If you want them then you're going to have to bid. On ebay.
To be blunt, lots of people want these items and the people who are actually going to get these items are the people with the deepest pockets. And rightly so - that's how life goes. The seller isn't running some sort of charity.
I currently really want a 2014 candy white BMW 3 series coupe with dark red leather seats - however the BMW dealer isn't going to do me a special deal because I REALLY want one and I'd look after is SOOO much. And I don't think telling him reasons why I deserve one the most would work either.

I'd also stop hounding the seller asking to know what they have and asking them to reserve things for you - I imagine they'll soon get sick. I notice they've already said they've had a huge influx of messages.
Check their ebay account daily, bid on what you want, and if you get outbid then tough luck.

I apologise if I've sounded condescending at all - I just think some people are getting a bit over exited and everybody needs a reality check.

There was no way my mum would of given me the money most of these machines will end up selling for.

Me too!
It is a good job I have a job then...and an overdraft! LOL
