I'd like the U2462, the Vortex and the Purepower Bigfoot myself and will be bidding on them - I've no doubt I wont get them, but at least this way, everyone has a fair crack at the whip. These vacs don't come up every day, and its only right that all collectors get an equal chance to bid for them.

If I really wanted to I could tell everyone hear I am going to bid £1000 would anyone top that? Most unlikely so why bother trying? (That was an example by the way I am not actually going to do that! Lol)

The thing is, Alex, this auctions will sort out who REALLY wants these cleaners. They are only worth what people are prepared to pay. If someone is prepared to pay £1000 for one, then they must really want it. Don't forget, people like Roger, Chester Mike and RyRy87 are gonna be interested in some of these vacs - real vacuum enthusiasts - but only one can win each item at the end of the day, and yes, its all down to money - but not even a millionaire will waste more money than necessary on a vac.

I don't understand this business of "it is only worth what people are willing to pay" not really true, the man with no money will want it just as much as the man with all the money which leads to another point, it would be pretty funny if a non collector bought these old cleaners because of couse anyone is able to buy on eBay.

I bet the seller of these cleaners are lauging their ar*e off, they will be rolling in it.

Well - that's the result of saving back new items for years - they become collectible and highly desireable when no-one else has any left to sell. Even more so as these are still boxed, all be it the boxes are a bit battered.


This is a capitalist society Alex and unfortunately you cant get a highly desirable item for a small price. You have to be prepared to sacrifice a large amount of money if there are many people that also want the same item. The price it sells for will be proportional to its rarity and desirability.

Sadly some people have more money than others, it's how things work sadly.

Personally I think spending anything morethan £40 is a bit nuts, let alone the £60 odd quid one of the tp2s is going for, or the £100 DC04 is at, but hey, someone will bebloody excited somewhere (hopefully, good point about average joe buying the tp2, unpacking it then smashing it into the sofa a few times...)

I should imagine the sellers are exstatic about this, they are supplying a demand, nothing more. I wish the tat I had in the garage would attract such attention!

Average Joe wont be buying any of these vacs. They will go to collectors who more than likely wont use them, but preserve them in brand new condition, for many years. Imagine the TP2 models still being brand new when they are 60 odd years old - how much do you think they would be worth then?

Could you really keep it in the box that long?and in another 60 years it may just fall apart for the plastic being so old. Would you sacrifice all that money just to leave it in the box, Steve? May as well not of bought it and saved the picture...and the money!

Also, by the seller coming on VL a day or so beforehand telling us all about what vacuums they had to sell,  this aroused a hell of a lot of interest before the items had even been listed. This was a very clever thing to do.

How do you think antiques become antiques Alex? by being looked after and preserved. Plastic only ages if exposed to sunlight and adverse conditions. If these vacs are kept boxed and in a dry dark condition they will stay in good condition. An investment if you like.

HiLo - the DC04 will be worth a lot, but a brand new, mint DC01 will be worth the most, as it was Dyson's first ever mass produced vacuum, that changed the face of vacuum cleaners.

Alex - Average Joe wont be buying them because Average Joe wont be prepared to spend a fortune on a 20 odd year old vac. Average Joe wants a new vac that's the latest in technology like a Dyson DC39 or DC41

Its the last 10 seconds that's the best though isn't it Alex? The snipers that bid in the last dying seconds of the auction. I've lost count of the number of items I've lost to snipers. But that's all part of the fun of Ebay.

Also, a lot of early interest in items usually stops sellers selling via the back door, and allowing the auction to run to the end. ie it helps to stop selfish buyers trying to get sellers to end the auction early by offering "x" amount.
