Turbopower Plus U1294

This came up on freecycle earlier, and within 5 minutes it was mine. Added 8 miles onto my way home from work and picked it up.

Came with a box of un-used tools, and was missing a rear wheel. A quick steal from my parts turbopower and it was mobile again. I used it initially, but the belt was more than gone, so I put a new genuine belt on, and it was good as new again.

I will fully strip it down, restore and service it, then add it to my collection.

Back from the dead - nearly

Well...

She sat at my mums for ages, then at the flat for ages, then I stripped it down.

I then got lots of dysons in for refurb jobs, and the Hoover 262, and the Aquatronic, all of which went first. It ended up sitting around dismantled for weeks, then I washed it all and it sat some more.

Then we got rats and moved out, I gathered it all up and boxed it up quickly. It went into my mums loft.

I got it out today, as I'm very bored with nothing to do. Don't want to carry the Aquatronic on, as A half of it is 30 miles away in my sister in laws loft, secondly I want it to be my first project in hopefully a nice shed/garage of my own, set up as a workshop.

Anyway, one of the reasons this poor old girl lingered was I managed to snap both coil wires off the spade terminals. No idea how, and my spare coil was from a different mode, so this pretty much mothballed it.

So, some (now historic) stripdown pictures. I thought there were more, but I;ve been through 2 phones in that time (HTC One, broke the screen on that, Xperia U whilst that got fixed (with many different roms on it) and now back to my fixed HTC)

Undid one coil of each wire and wrapped it around the appropriate side ready for repair.

I then got the hood out and the machine polisher.

That's some sort of paint, that no solvent would shift. I did scrape the worst off, but started hitting the plastic so stopped

However 10 minutes with this

I switched to a softer blue pad and some softer, more filling polish and gave the whole hood a spruce up, beign VERY careful of the writing

I then waxed it, to protect the finish

That's it for now, need the motor fixing as that's the first thing to go back in. Will update when more work is done!

Ahhhh my nanna and granddad used to have one of these when they owned their shop. Probably not that exact model but they had one very similar for the shop along with a Turbomaster Freedom for their home.

The machine they had in the shop was the same colour, and I think the bag pattern was the same, but I can't remember it being the 'plus' and I can't remember it having the bag freshener setup either.... come to think of it I'm not sure if it had a headlight too?

God only knows... my memory isn't that good haha
I know they sold the shop in 1991 and the machine will of been a good few years old then

These first appeared in 1989 as part of the 3rd generation Turbopower's. Prior to this, the other TP junior cleaner were the U1100 in beigh, the U1220 in black (both with no headlight), the U1222 Electricity Board exclusive in grey with a headlight and the U1102 Electricity Board exclusive in cream and brown with a headlight.

Soon, due to lack of space this machine will be packed away in a nice box. This part is a pain to get on and off at the best of times, and I don't want to do it any more than needed. One day when they can be assembled for good I'll refit it. Until then it's safe on a shelf

Need to find my box of Hoover Spares in the loft and put a new air freshener in. Could also do with a properbelt, as it has a bojack but new one on at the moment that I found in the garage.
