Got all of our Turbopowers out this weekend to have some photos taken of them and thought it would be nice to show some pics,

I know they are not everyones tastes and the plastiqueness of them made them lesser quality than the metal Hoovers but they are in my opinion the last of the decent "Real Hoovers to be produced that actually clean the carpets they are used on.

I currently have 10 in the collection so heres a few more.

Enjoy,

Rob and Paul

I meant to mention

A bit of a full range/variety line up kind of thing.

TP Total System
TP Hardbag - bag full neon
TP Hardbag - basic
TP Hardbag - no airfreshener

Softbag basic

Hey Rob/Paul

What a great lineup! I'd argue that Turbopowers are high-quality machines though, and are certainly closer to older models than to present-day ones. Certainly they seem to have a higher survival rate than their contemporaries, and I think of them as a direct descendant of the Starlight, which strikes me as a very important machine as it kinda set the template for most new design 80s Hoover uprights, with its simplified Dialamatic layout.

I do wish though that Hoover hadn't developed an obsession with grey/beigey colours by the time the 3rd generation models came out, although the glittery madness of the Freedom makes up for that a bit!

I'm so looking forward to seeing the database though - correct me if I'm wrong, but the variants and extras the machine could be built with goes something like this:

Soft/hard bag

One/two speed motor

Boost button

Bag full indicator

Air freshener

Automatic flex rewind

On board tools

Headlight

Wonder how many versions that could make in theory...

Hoover - Who Better

Hi Simon, Variations!!! you know you shouldnt tease Paul like that!!! he`s not going to sleep now wondering what he`s let himself in for!!!!, BUT its true, all those exclusives into the pot, I wonder just how many there are???

Lovely collection there guys, how is the Permabag thing doing?? is it really a "Dirt Sieve"??, I do love the darker colours of the Hoovers, Beige n Grey is not on my radar...I do like the Cream Electric Showrooms models they always had a good contrast dont you think!!!

Turbomasters/Innovations

Hey Philip

The Innovation is as you are no doubt aware a UK made machine- it was known as the Turbomaster over here so it sounds like yours has been fitted with a UK handle, what colour is it?.

The Turbopower was also availiable briefly in the US- renamed the Sovereign.

Cheers

The Spreadsheets

2 versions - version A.

This lists those models, grouped together in the series' as they were introduced.

As with the washer and dryer spreadsheets, the red squares either highlight missing information OR contain dodgy information.

as you will see the main mysteries surround the official names given to the colours.
May i take this opportunity to thank Seamus for posting the two photos of the hoover service manuals, in an older thread. The vast majority of the official name colours known and shown below was down to those two photos. cheers Seamus.

The series shown below were all issued in official hoover brochures.

Obviously though, there were many more models the majority of which are shown on the next spreadsheet!

any help, gratefully received....

and version B.

This is a simple list of all machine model numbers I have found so far - TP1, TP2 and TP3, as well and the Turbomasters.

The GEN column shows 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 etc. This means a...

Turbopower1-series1 (U2194 - 1983 generation)
Turbopower1-series2 (U2332 - 1986 generation)
Turbopower1-series3 (U2602 - 1989 generation)
Turbopower1-series4 (U2718 - 1991 generation)

If anyone can help place the others, fill in any of the other missing info from either spreadsheet or post piccies of the machines, I would be so grateful.

Be wonderful to produce a thread showing each and every model - a real visual and information history of this 1980s classic (these 1980s classics if we include the Turbomasters and Turbolites!).

Fingers crossed.
Cheers
Paul

Permabag

Mike,

The Permabag is fine, however it does leak a fair amount of dust but it tends to cling to the inside of the cleaners outlet surfaces.

Its not my choice of daily driver but then im keen to keep it as preserved in its almost new state as long as possible due to its rarity value and its own extreme personal value to me - I wont ever forget the guy who gave it to me, nor the week I got it.

~That week was a turning point in my life going how I wanted it to pan out when I was so overwhelmed by a new friends generosity not to mention that Paul had organised it all behind my back to start my Hoover collection into something as serious as I have always wanted.

It seems so shallow to say that a few Hoover Turbopowers made me so happy, but its also the guys who organised it for me that mean so much. The Hoovers are just a constant reminder of them.

However after a terrible start to the new year - I can say that I feel more positive and am able to walk away from the rubbish I have had to suffer for the past 24 years.

It only leaves me one thing to say,

Paul (TurbopowerPaul) - you made this dream come true for me, thankyou will never be enough for me to say but it is all I can say.
I couldnt ask for any more in a boyfriend, you just do it all.

And to the previous owners - you know who you are :)you may not be a member but I know you are watching.
Thankyou so much, Im still so over the moon with them as you can tell,

The other Turbos are used occasionally but with utmost care to keep them running and prevent accidents. I do prefer the bagged versions though. something so satisfying about emptying the bag when they are so jam packed with dirt.

Great work Paul,

Fascinating reading all this. When I was up in Scotland last month, I was able to pick up a few Commercial brochures, and the picture below was in one of them - can we say 'Innovation' here? Hope you can make out the text, I've not got a scanner.

Nice to hear you two are still so happy - will we be needing to buy hats anytime soon?

Just waiting for you two to ditch that Miele now and replace it with a nice Sensotronic!

The Freedom...

Mike, I agree with Rob - the Freedom isn't a dust beltcher in the way that, say, a cleaner with split bellows is. The filter seems to work well enough (apart from being a devil to clean out), the problem lies in the seal between the dust box and the dust tube, especially at the top of it - you can see the swirl of dust on the dust box of mine below. This machine has only been used to clean a room 4-5 times after I last cleaned it out.

Emptying it is also a bit nasty, the front of the dust cup has a lip which helps raise dust when it's emptied, very clumsy compared to even the 80s dustcup Powerpluses.

I did notice tonight that the 'o' ring from a Hoover TT pump fits pretty snugly over the dust tube outlet - might pop one over for a bit to see if it improves or worstens the seal. Like Hoover, mine is a policy of continuous improvement!

Si!

Hey Mate

Its great to see you back :)

I really hate to think what a nice C1314 would make if one ever appeared on Ebay lol!

It defiantly looks like an Innovation!- does it have Turbomaster on it anywhere??
