Hi everyone,

I got this beautiful machine last week. It was in incredibly good condition and had apparently not been used for quite some time. It really only needed some surface cleaning to be as good as new.

I'm wondering when it was made. It's a U6033, with the serial number U6033808 00586. I know somebody here knew how to interpret US Hoover s/n's, so perhaps they can work this one out for me.

Also, could anybody suggest a good place to buy a belt set and bags online? I'm having trouble finding anything here in Australia. A replacement foam filter for the exhaust outlet would be nice too, but that's probably hoping too much.

Thanks

Nick

I know on some of my Dial-A-Matics, I've seen a date stamp. If you remove the front panel, there may be a date stamp on the main frame. I have the U.S. equivalent of your machine and it has a date stamp of 1975.

Wouldn't the stamp be a service date though? I have a few machiens that are "stamped" and many people said that it is a service date.

Nice :)

Hey Nick

As you are no doubt aware thats a US built machine - I have the UK market version mine is U603350901653 - September 1975, yours is quite a bit later- August 1978 to be exact ;). Thats actually the UK/Europe date system,U6033(model)8(year- you need to know the decade)08(month)then the individual machine number.

AFAIK the belts are still availiable in the US- mine came from a collector friend but Ebay.com should sort ya out !

Cheers
Seamus

P.S One major difference between "Export" Powerdrive DAMS and the Home market US versions is the dirtsearcher lamp- US market machines have the standard Small Bayonet lamp whereas mine and id guess yours have the 12v push in type.

"I can tell you that this was the LAST model of powerdrive Dial_Matics made."

But what about the brown U6041? That too had power drive, had faux woodgrain around the "nameplate" sticker and was available until somewhere around 1980. Also, was there any difference between the model U6039 and U6039-030 other than model number?

I am curious. I found a U6007 in the trash. I replaced the belts and it works great (the light bulb still works too).

Any idea what year it came out? It does have the powerdrive in it (and that works surprisingly well too...turn push that disengage button down and you can really tell the difference!).

Actually, I mistyped that. "Turn push" is incorrect. I just meant to type "push that disengage button down." Sorry for the confusion!

As to the purpose of it (other than to remind us how well the powerdrive works), I have no idea. I do know sometimes if you want to go over a small area over and over, it's a little easier because the powerdrive (at least on my model) seems to like longer strides.

Thanks for the update.

I had a closer look at the weekend and couldn't see how a square button could be turned, so I assumed you were looking at a slightly different model.

You're right about the powerdrive taking long strides. It's run away from me a couple of times ... luckily it stops dead when your hand comes off the grip.

I managed to find a replacement agitator belt for it too and now it goes beautifully.
